"This will just take a second," Mal promised, taking the blue haired girl by the arm and leading her to the school next door to the festivities. "I just left my spell book earlier and didn't want to get it by myself."
Evie sighed and agreed, following Mal through the darkness of the night and into the school building.
On the other side of the school, Carlos was pulling Jay inside as well.
"I swear Dude ran in here," the younger boy lied.
"Isn't he in our dorm?" Jay asked.
"He must of escaped," Carlos shrugged. "I saw him run through the dance floor and into the building."
Carlos and Mal had made a plan to lock Jay and Evie in the chemistry room until they opened up to eachother.
"Check the chem room," Mal said to Evie. Evie walked into the room and got on the ground behind a desk, looking for the spellbook and hiding herself from view in the process.
"Check the Chem room," Carlos told Jay. Jay walked into the room and turned around quickly when the door was shut behind him. Evie also jumped up at the noise.
"Jay?"
"Evie?"
"What are you doing here?" Evie asked confused.
"Looking for Dude... You?"
"Looking for Mal's spell book."
Their eyes grew as they realized what was going on.
"Carlos! Mal!" They shouted.
Jay tried to open the door and Evie ran to a window. Unfortunately for them, everything was locked up tight.
"You can come out when you're done talking!" They heard Mal yell.
"You're not coming out until then," Carlos affirmed.
Evie held her breath and looked out the window. She didn't know how she would get out of here without telling Jay her feelings. True, she was a flirt, and very confident about herself, but found herself getting nervous around him constantly. She was beyond terrified at being rejected. What if he only saw her as a sister and nothing more?
Jay sighed, knowing this wouldn't be easy for him. He liked Evie, a lot more than he could bring himself to admit. He had a gut feeling that she felt the same, but he didn't want to put himself out there like that. He actually cared about her, and it scared him.
"I can't believe them," Jay chuckled nervously, scratching at his neck.
"Neither can I," Evie shook her head, finally meeting his gaze.
"Evie..." Jay started, swaying on his feet. "Do you know why they locked us in here?"
"Probably for the same reason they left us earlier," Evie smiled, pushing a strand of hair out of her face.
"Which is?" Jay asked as he walked towards her.
"They.... They think we should talk," Evie answered.
"About?"
"About... About... Ummm... Jay?" Evie stuttered as she pointed out the window. "Is that..."
Jay looked over to see her pointing at Audrey and Chad, who were holding his father's scepter. He recognized it instantly from all the old photos his father had hanging up in the shop from his "glory days".
"Oh, no," Jay gasped.
"We need to get out of here," Evie said frantically, running to the door with Jay close behind.
