Elise gasped as she stared at Heart Castle in awe. Time, who was standing next to her, smiled and stepped forwards. " Come on, it's going to start soon!" Time urged.

"...right..." Elise tucked a loose stand of hair behind her ear. "It's just beautiful at night with all the lights on."

"You can say that again."

They had left the Clock Tower when it was evening out, but since time doesn't flow naturally, Elise assumed that Vivaldi had changed the time of day via something similar to the hourglass Elise had gotten. All of Heart Castle's lights were on, and the whole scene was very pretty.

...too bad it won't last...

"Hurry up, we're going to miss the opening!"

Elise snapped back into reality and quickly followed Time(and Julius, who was already way ahead of them) up the palace steps. They joined the crowd of faceless in the ballroom, which was fabulously decorated, with streamers and banners and the chandeliers up attached to the ceiling. There were long buffet tables covered with food, cake, tea, and even one for alcohol. There was a man in a white suit standing there that Julius was walking over to, and Elise felt like she recognized him for some reason. She followed Julius(leaving Time to mingle) and watched from a few feel away. The man that Julius was talking to had at least three drinks in a matter of seconds.

"-You're a freak of nature, Ace. How is it that you've been guzzling vodka since you've walked in and you're still not drunk?" Elise overheard Julius talking to the man, addressing him as "Ace."

Ace? I've heard that name before! But from where...?

"Ha-Ha! That's really mean." Ace laughed, finishing off another drink.

"Silence, everyone." There was a voice Elise recognized as Peter's that sounded throughout the ballroom. A hush fell over the crowd as Vivaldi, wearing a dress that was twice as majestic as usual, came forward so that she was standing on the edge of the balcony. "Heed Her Majesty's speech as she opens our ball."

"Welcome." Vivaldi announced as soon as the guests were completely silent. "I hope you will enjoy this ball we have prepared for the enjoyment of all of the Country of Hearts. It does not matter weather you were invited or not- there is no particular decorum tonight, and our lives may end at anytime, so please enjoy this night and use it to dance, speak, and mingle how you choose."

There was a pause as Vivaldi let her words sink in.

"That is all." Vivaldi turned and left the balcony. The orchestra started to play, and the talking resumed.

Elise walked over to Ace and he looked at her in surprise. "Hi!" Elise said with a smile. Julius huffed out a sigh behind them.

"Heya! Are you an Outsider? Wait- I think Her Majesty was talking about you." Ace said brightly. "Elsie, right?(a/n: anyone who knows me knows how pissed off I get when anyone calls me "elsie.")"

"Elise." Elise corrected him, slightly irritated. Ace laughed and apologized, picking up another drink.

"You want one?" Ace asked, leaning the drink towards Elise slightly.

"Uh... Is it alcoholic?"

"Yeah, bottoms up!" Ace gulped the one in his other hand down quickly. "So, wanna try it?"

"No thanks." Elise replied quickly.

"But... Booze is life, Elise!"

"...I'm underage, Ace." Elise said flatly as Julius sighed painfully again.

"Leave the girl alone, Ace." He seethed and patted Ace forcefully on the back. "You're overdosing. And somehow you're not drunk."

Elise was starting to think that the whole thing may've been a lie after all. Maybe it had all been a dream. The Diary, which she had grabbed on the way out was wedged into her side and starting to get a little painful.

"Excuse me, do you know where a bathroom is?" She asked a maid politely. The maid nodded and pointed it out. Elise nodded her thanks and left in the direction.

Once the door was closed, Elise pulled the book out and opened it with a slight gasp of surprise. The words, even the diary entries, they were all gone. Except, in the very back of the book... Elise felt her stomach drop as she saw it.

A bloody handprint.
