There are things I know.
I know the way rain sounds against a window at 3AM ....like it's asking to be let in. I know that the colour blue feels like sadness even when the sky is clear. I know that some silences are louder than any words ever spoken.
But I don't know my name.
I didn't ....not at first.
The first thing I remember is cold. Not the kind that bites at your skin, but the kind that settles deep inside your chest and makes you wonder if warmth was ever real to begin with. I remember concrete beneath my palms, the metallic taste of something I didn't want to think about, and the strange, hollow feeling of being completely... empty.
No past. No face in my memory I could call my own. No voice I recognised as someone who had ever loved me.
Just nothing.
And then ....him.
I didn't know his name either, not then. I only knew the warmth of a voice being draped over me, the careful way he crouched down in front of me like I was something fragile. Like I was something worth being careful with.
I remember thinking ....why?
Why would anyone stop for someone like me? Someone bleeding on the side of a road with no story to offer, no explanation to give, no reason to be trusted?
But he did.
He stopped. He stayed.
And something inside me ....something buried so deep beneath all that emptiness ....stirred.I didn't have a name for it then.
I'm not sure I have one for it even now.
All I know is that when he looked at me that first night ....really looked, like he was searching for something human in my eyes and refusing to leave until he found it ....I felt, for just one moment, like maybe I had existed before this.
Like maybe, somewhere in the life I couldn't remember...
I had been loved.
And maybe, in some quiet, aching corner of whatever was left of me ...
I had loved someone too.
