"Come on you should go it'll be fun!" Ross says taking my hands.
"Thank you, but no. I don't have anything to wear, a mask and-"
"You can borrow something from Gracie or Rydel!"
"Go, Ross. Have fun."
He sighs. "Okay, but I wish you were coming. It's gonna be like Romeo and Juliet! My-"
"Favorite movie, I know. Go find a Juliet, Romeo."
"Okay, bye." I wave. I sit on the couch. I pick up my book. Maybe I should go. No one will know who I am. I could find my Romeo. Before I even know it I'm running to my closet. I take out the one formal dress I brought. A short black dress that's fitted at the top and flowy at the bottom. It has a halter design and silver gems at the top. I put my hair in a simple French twist and put on more powder, blush and eyeliner. Very natural, I'm not trying hard. I put on silver strappy heels, grab my silver clutch and run to Gracie and Maia's room. I might be able to catch them.
"Maia! Gracie!" I knock frantically. Rydel answers the door.
"Nina?"
"Do you have an extra mask that'll go with this?" I say gesturing to my outfit.
"You're going!" She says excited, letting me in the room. I see Gracie and Maia putting on jewelry. Rydel starts looking through a pile of masks.
"Yes, I am, don't tell anyone. I do not want to be thought of as cliché."
"You look great!" Maia exclaims.
"Yeah!" Gracie says.
"Aha!" Rydel says pulling out a silver half face mask. It kind of looked like it was from "Phantom of the Opera" except it showed my nose. It was less creepy, but I realized it only had one eye hole.
"Whatever. Less people will notice me?" I say I put it on and it was surprisingly comfortable. I gasped. "Idea!" I run to my room and take out the purple colored contacts that I got from set and put one in the exposed eye. Perfect. I put on two silver rings and silver studs and ran back to Gracie and Maia's room.
"Perfect!" Gracie said.
"You're actually very different looking. I wouldn't guess it's you." Maia added.
"Good."
When we got to the beach ball I put my clutch on the purse table. When I got in the ball room it was actually a lot harder to recognize people. It took me a long time to figure who some of the people were. I found Garrett and of course I saw Gracie, Maia and Rydel. I also found all of R5 and Ryland. I also found Mollee, Jordan, Will, and Kent. This took me a very long time, so I became less worried about people finding out who I was. I didn't really know what to do so I went over to the punch bowl and poured a glass. This really was "Romeo and Juliet" themed. There were almost all slow songs. Every other song they would either dance like they do in "Romeo and Juliet" and then they would dance a modern slow dance. I don't know what I am doing I should go.
I turn to go get my clutch and leave when I bump into Ross.
Crap.
"Woah." He says looking at my outfit.
"Hi." I say.
"What's your name?" He doesn't know who I am? Good. I'll keep it that way.
"Well that would defeat the purpose of a masquerade ball." I say. I tried to make my voice different sounding. I'm not sure if it worked.
"I'm Ross."
"Cool."
"I don't think I've ever seen you around set."
"Well I'm everywhere."
"Really? I think I would've noticed a girl with purple eyes." Is he onto me?
"Well it looks like you haven't."
"Would you like to dance?" I hesitate.
"Sure." Once the next song started playing we went onto the floor and began dancing. The song was "A Thousand Years" and we had to dance "Romeo and Juliet" style. I put my hand to his. I kept my eyes on his.
"So...what's your favorite movie?"
"The Hunger-" can't tell him my real favorite movie.
"The Hunger?" Ross asks.
"No um 'Greece'." Greece? I'd never even seen that movie.
"Yeah that's a cool one! I really want to show my girlfriend that movie."
"Girlfriend?" What? Wait he has a girlfriend?
"Well she's my almost girlfriend. We're not completely official." Who is it?
"Is she here?" If she's here I'll bet Maia knows and I can ask her.
"No she's not...unfortunately." Crap! She's not in the movie.
"Um maybe we should stop dancing."
"No! She won't care. She's chill." Great. She sounds wonderful. The song ends and "Falling for Ya" comes on. "One more dance?" he asks.
"Alright." We go into a modern slow dance. "So what's your almost girlfriends name."
"Well I would tell you, but just in case we aren't official, I shouldn't." Drat.
"I understand."
"Sometimes she is just really hard to read."
I nod.
"You're a good dancer." He says
"Thank you. You too."
"Are you sure you can't tell me your name?"
"Okay. It's...Cecilia." Cecilia? Where did that come from.
"That's a nice name." I laugh nervously. As the song is dying down, Ross spins me and I hit a waiter walking by. I immediately fall backwards but feel myself being caught. My heart is racing from that quick incident. I turn around to face Ross. His hands are on my hips and mine are on his chest.
"Thanks I-" Ross suddenly puts his lips on mine and my mind goes blank. I've never had my mind blank before. Well, it goes blank for fifteen seconds until I realize what I'm doing and pull away.
"Cecilia-" I am looking in his eyes, and then I realize what I just did. I immediately rip my shoes off and sprint to grab my clutch.
"Cecilia! Cecilia!" Ross yells, running after me. I sprint across the beach back to the hotel still in my bare feet. I run up the stairs and into my room. I finally catch my breath. What have I done. I rip my mask off and throw it on the floor. I rip my dress off and pull my hair down and shower. When I finish I put on my pajamas and go out to the balcony. My wet hair blows in the cool, tropical breeze. The moon sets a blue cast on the empty beach. Well almost empty. I see Ross standing facing the sea.
No one will know.
No one.
