"I found it!" I yell over my shoulder to Marzia. Leaning over, I pick up my Gameboy. "Thanks for all your help." I say brushing the grass off the screen.
Marzia walks over to me with a bright smile on her face.
"Yay!" She pauses to look over my shoulder. "Would you like to stay for lunch? I could ask Felix if you want."
"Uh.." Already? I try to think of a quick excuse, I don't really feel comfortable. I guess I would like to get to know my neighbours a little more, though. It would help my parents fix up the house a little. I nod my head slowly. "Y-yeah. Why not?" I say with a forceful smile.
Marzia leads me through to the dining room, where I take a seat and don't move anywhere but that chair. 1 minute passes...nothing has happened. 2...5 minutes. No! I do not need the toilet. Nope!
More yelling comes from the room Felix is in. Yelling and swearing. A lot of swearing. And I just sit there. In my chair. In a house that I'm unfamiliar with. Intimitaded by a guy named Felix. Felix. I love how Marzia says his name. Fell-ix....I wonder what game he is playing.
I pull my Gameboy closer to my chest as Marzia interrupts my thoughts.
"Do you like pizza?" She motions to a large box in front of her. Pizza? Do I like pizza? What kind of a question is that? Who doesn't? With all my excitement about a box, I manage to squeak out, "Yes." I really cannot speak today can I?
"Ok. Felix!" She places the box on the table and waits for an answer.
"Yeah?" He yells from inside his closed room. I see him poke his head out the door and smell the aroma. Eyes wide, he rushes out and plonks down onto a chair next to me. I discretely shuffle over in my seat. He stares at the pizza waiting for the box to magically open. I look at him, then, flip the lid, revealing the beautiful piece of bread.
Felix rushes to grab a slice, but Marzia's hand smacks it away. "Bad Pewds!" She says with pursed lips. Pewds?
"Wha-at?" He whines, placing his hands in his lap.
"That's not for you." She points to me. I gasp. A-all for me? No.
"No. He can have some if he wants. I mean..." His face lights up. Marzia shrugs him off and walks back into the kitchen.
Felix and I share the beautiful pizza in silence. Literally no sound besides chewing is made.
After I sadly finish off my last slice, I study Felix. I think he's in he's twenties.
Mental note: Felix is mental.
A slight buzz comes from my game and Felix stares down at it.
"A Gameboy?" He says with a grin. I nod slowly. Talk! Why don't I talk!
"Uh...yeah. I got it a few years ago." My parents gave it to me for my birthday. Limited edition. I play games. A lot.
"You play?" He waits for an answer. "Video games."
"Oh!" I say in realisation. "Yeah, yeah I do. Mostly on the PC, but I also have a WII and XBOX. 360 that is..." I stop when I realise I'm rambling. I mentally scold myself.
"I still can't believe you don't know what Walking Dead is."
"Oh, you mean the tv show?" He shakes his head. Mkay...I don't know one thing. Big deal.
"Game. There's this little girl. A few years older than you. Wait, how old are you?"
"Thirteen..." I stare at him.
"Anyway, yeah she's seven and she has a hat just like you. Replica even. Clementine. Her name was Clementine." He pauses while I try to think of a response. I just find myself nodding though. "I played it and posted it on Youtube if you want to see." He stands up. I stay seated.
"I can watch it at home. I don't mind." I didn't want to disturb whatever he was doing anyway. But he motions for me to follow him.
He leads me into what must be the computer room? "Whoa..." I say under my breath. A lot of things are in here.
"Welcome to my office!" He chuckles. "Do you want to see me play? I was in the middle of recording my 'Alice' series, but you can watch." Do I have to go back home? This family does seem really nice. Felix is okay. Marzia is really nice. I find myself nodding.
"M'kay." He pulls out an extra chair beside his and plonks down into it. I sit elegantly into the spare seat and watch the screen intently. So cool! A blank screen! Felix switches his monitor on and a paused game screen comes up. He arranges his webcam and microphone and starts talking. I watch him play the game, not daring to talk. Until, he mentions me. I sit up straight and smile at the camera. He starts talking about how I should of played Walking Dead with him, when he pauses everything.
"Did you just move here?" He asks in bewilderment. I find myself nodding again.
"Yeah, next door. You just noticed?" I think I'm feeling more comfortable talking now. Took long enough.
"Well yeah, the moving truck." He points outside. A large yellow truck parks momentarily in front of Felix's house. He just stares at me ...puzzled.
He continues his game a few moments later, and I find myself laughing at him. The way he talks is funny. Not just his accent, but the jokes he makes. They're just crazy. I sit back in my office chair. Chuckling to myself as he rages and then suddenly becomes passive again.
I think I'll find myself dropping my Gameboy over the fence a bit more often.
