CHAPTER 11
"So are you going to tell me what happened?" Toby said, head facing the road. I turn to look at him.
"Uh, no." I state firmly. He grins.
"Of course." His knuckles grasp tightly to the steering wheel and I shuffle around in my seat. This dress really isn't comfortable. It's not even the right attire for where we are going. Toby is wearing a Tshirt and jeans. Well, I guess I caught him off guard when I asked to go to dinner, though.
"I'm sorry for making you come and pick me up." I say again.
"No problem. It's just good that you aren't hurt." He says, shaking his head. "Why were you out all alone anyway?" Toby says, trying to force information out of me.
"I told you. You aren't ever going to find out." I laugh. Toby slows the car down as we approach traffic. The inside of the vehicle is quiet and it smells like a new book. I feel my phone buzzing in my handbag. I reach out for it, but place it back down when I see Felix's name. Toby glances at my screen and turns to face me.
"Pewdie made you angry?" He says as of its a joke. I nod slightly and his face looks overly surprised. "Pewdie Felix Pie?" He asks.
"Yes Pewdie...Felix...Pie?" I confirm. He scoffs in the middle of a laugh. "What?" I ask, my eyebrow raised.
"Nothing." He sniggers. I furrow my brows.
"Tell."
"Nope. You tell me why you were out by yourself...then ill say what." Toby says casually. Now, I was completely confused. Not just by what he said, but the whole situation. I was just being selfish back there. I should of let Clara spend some time with Felix. Besides, it's probably the only time she's ever going to see him. Me? I'm his neighbour. I could of had that conversation with him the next day, without the need to ruin the dinner. After all, Pewdie was never mine to have.
Toby must of noticed my silence as he turns to face me.
"So. Where are we going, Mr. Buscus?" I laugh, staring at the scenery outside.
"Mr. Buscus, huh? It has a nice ring to it." He replies, completely ignoring my question.
"Sounds like a great place to eat, Toby." I say under my breath. "What's on the radio?" I shout at his face, laughing.
"I don't know! Check for yourself!" He answers, mimicking me. I poke my tongue out and switch in the radio. Music blares out of the speakers in a language I am not quite familiar with.
"Can you actually understand this?" I say to his surprised face.
"I have no idea what the bloody hell this is." Toby says innocently.
"Yeah, sure." I answer sarcastically.
"Oh, look. Guess you can't listen to it because we're here." He smirks as we pull up in front of a fancy looking restaurant. Turns out I was dressed for the occasion. I laugh as I wedge open the car door and step out into the freezing cold. I wrap Toby's jacket tighter around me. Toby puts a warm arm around my shoulders and guides me into the restaurant. It has a cozy and romantic feel about it, since the lights are dimmed and there is soft music playing.
A few other couples are here and are enjoying really fancy meals. We are guided to our own table by the waitor. We both sit down reluctantly and I smile.
"What?" Toby asks, staring blankly at my face.
"Did Felix tell you?" I laugh.
"Did Felix tell me what?" He responds.
