Chapter 17
"So you ready for the party tonight?" Toby asks me, one hand in control of the steering wheel, and the other placed on top of the wound down window.
"Uh, I have a dress, I guess. But noone ever freaking told me there was a party." I mutter. Toby chuckles lightly. I turn my attention to the road. "Where we headed anyway?" I ask out of curiosity. Ha, I remember when I first met Felix and I thought he was kidnapping me.
"Um...this place around the corner." Toby says with a questionable tone in his voice.
"We've been driving for twenty minutes." I exclaim. He darts his eyes over to look at me for a few seconds.
"Well, it's a very long corner." Toby says. I smile and shake my head, but then remind myself that he hasn't apologised yet. I let my smile fade as quickly as it came. Okay, remember why you're here.
After a few more minutes, Toby finally pulled into a car park opposite a small homely looking cafe. It was brick and had climbing ivy growing up the walls. Didn't look too bad at all.
I actually realise that Toby has opened up my car door when he clears his throat and holds out his palm to me. I brush it aside and get out without his assistance. I then walk past him, looking back to smirk at his surprised face. He quickly catches up to me as if nothing had happened.
As we enter the building, a little bell chimes above the little wooden door. A few people are seated at tables surrounded with roses and other plant life. This place is actually verging on being extremely beautiful.
"How'd you find this place?" I whisper to him, as if I can't believe Toby being able to eat at top cafes like this one.
"A little birdie told me." He says. I use my shoulder to nudge him, he stumbles off to the side and I quickly use that time to sit down at a table for two.
A few menus are placed in a little shelve in the wall beside me and I reach over and grab two. I look up to see that Toby is staring at me. I shiver. I brush it off and smile, handing him his own menu. He takes it but still continues to look at me. I break the gaze to look down at the various meals written on the thin piece of paper.
What just happened? Did I just have a "moment" with him? Uh...Clem? Just remember to keep your walls up.
"So, Clem? I just really wanted to say I am extremely sorry. I was kinda trying to sort things out with my Ex and things just really got to me. I am so sorry. I wasn't ignoring you, I was, as I said, just thinking about stuff." He says. Strangely, all I could focus on was 'his ex'. As if never said anything else. What did he mean by 'sorting things out'?
"Uh..." I can't exactly think of a response. Well it's pretty freaking easy. Forgiven. Or not forgiven? "I-I um, understand." I manage to cough out. I'm pretty sure he heard me though, because he lets out a deep sigh of relief. He really wanted to fix things with me that bad?
"Hey I'm sorry about that librarian thing. I know it's like a phobia of yours." He adds to his current list of apologies. I nod in response. "And I was wondering, this time around, what are your favourite things then?"
"My favourite things?" I ask in disbelief.
"Yeah." He responds. I breath in, thinking of all the things I love. I love Felix. But I guess if I say that, it wouldn't go down well.
"Uh...video games. Drawing. Did you know that I mostly like drawing portraits? I don't know why, but I guess that's what got me into character design." I say, listing off all the things off of the top of my head. "I like going to the beach. Tobuscus." When I mention the last thing, Toby chuckles. I mentally frown. Did I actually said that to him?
