chapter 18

Sakina’s POV

A spark went off in my head, I recognized that sound he made. It was my name, I stopped, my incisors inches from his throat. the predator mode that I defaulted to after I blacked out reluctantly receded.

The quivering boy before me was no longer an easy human target, he was my human again. I pulled my head back slowly as my head cleared. My body shrank.

His shut eyes opened to see what happened. He looked at me. “are you alright?” I asked, my voice now human

“yeah” he said his voice a bit unsteady “ I’m just a bit shaken up that’s all, are you okay?”

“yes” I looked away trying to hide how guilty I felt.

“well that’s good” some of the shakiness had left his voice. He laughed a bit nervously, then tried to stand up. Even though his voice didn’t shake, when he moved, his body did. I stood and moved to help steady him like how id seen people on tv. I took his arm and placed it over my shoulder and wrapped my hand around his waist. All of a sudden his chest was in my face and his other arm was around me, his head resting on mine. The sudden (and surprisingly swift) movement caught me off guard causing me to make a noise that sounded kind of like a hiccup.

“thank you” he said softly. I could barely think straight from the sudden all over contact, let alone speak.

“I know I’m a burden to you. Honestly I don’t really even understand why you keep me here, with you. All I did was put you in danger and waste your time. I guess I thought you felt the same way I do about you, but I guess I was wrong”. He took a shaky breath and was silent for a few moments before he let me go and turned to walk away.

My thoughts snapped into place as he released me, and I was able to process what he said. I stood there dumbfounded unable to decide what to do. My head was saying ‘let him leave then, besides he’s right’ but my heart wanted to run to him and tell him how I feel. then a small powerful voice known as my instincts made my decision for me.

Toby’s P.O.V

“you weren’t wrong”

I stopped walking, hope rose in my chest as I slowly turned to face her. I had a moment of panic when I saw her confused and startled expression.

‘did I just imagine her saying that?’ I thought worriedly. “what?” I asked holding onto the hope that she had spoken.

She took a deep breath “you weren’t wrong”

my heart rate picking up excitedly, I could barely believe I was hearing this

“I do feel the same way” her eyes lowered to the ground.

 I practically ran over to her, cupping her head in my hands bringing her face to look at me. Her bright green eyes reluctantly met mine and our gazes locked. I felt like I was floating on clouds, and I slowly lowered my head to hers. Then just as our lips were about to meet I felt her body tense.

I opened my eyes and saw that she was looking past me, with a startled and sheepish look on her face.

Sakina’s P.O.V.

My heart was pounding in my chest as he walked over to me, his expression serious and intense. He stopped right in front of me, but I kept my gaze down so I wouldn’t see his angry expression. I felt his rough palm against my cheek the sparks from his touch successfully shutting down my ability to move and think properly. He lifts my face up to look at his and my eyes naturally go to his. The look in his eye turns my brain to mush, as the whole world melts away.

His eyes move down to my lips, closing as he lowers his head to me. My eyes begin to close too dismissing the large brown mass behind Toby as a tree trunk.

Right as I feel Toby’s warm breath against my face I hear a very familiar sound.
