Toby's eyes danced around the room in awe.
"what is all this stuff?" he asked
'Here we go again' I thought. "some of it is art, pictures of my current family mostly just things im interested in" I answered.
He nodded still looking around. Something caught his eye, he strolled over to the box with the shield and looked inside. It bothered me sometimes just how comfortable he was with me, 'but' I reminded myself 'him being comfortable is much better than him being shy or nervous'. He turned to me, his face quizzical.
"what are these?"
I sighed without looking at him "what do they look like?"
"uh, like jewelry" his tone was flat.
"Jewelry? I don't own jewelry". I spoke to myself
I turned in confusion; he lifted the intricate metal necklaces, bracelets, and anklets out of the box to show me,
"Then why do you have these?" Apparently he heard me.
"oh, because I haven't needed them" I said matter-of -factly, recognising what they were.
"why don't you sell them then?" it was very clear that he wanted to know more but was trying to be inconspicuous about it. I sighed and began to explain.
"because those are special" I put just enough emphasis on 'special' for it to clearly bother him
He rolled his eyes "special how?" he hinted after we stood there facing each other for a few seconds
"its not jewelry, its armour"
There was a silent pause until he gestured for me to continue
"I haven't used them because theres nothing that poses as a big enough threat to me right now. Animals either run or ignore me, humans scare off easily enough when I change and even for monster fights im unbeatable."
"well if you didn't need it in the first place why do you have it?"
"I never said I never needed it"
He rolled his eyes, he knew that I knew how much it bothered him when I played stupid about giving him information. Which bothered him more and made it that much more entertaining for me.
"what did you fight that was so bad? And if your So great wouldn't a fight have caused a huge worldwide catastrophe?"
"yes"
"so. . .?"
"it wasn't in you lifetime" I dismissed his question easily, smiling to myself.
"oh come ON! Sakina, just tell me please?"
I laughed loudly. Then laughed harder when he crossed his arms in playful frustration, trying not to smile.
"okay," I finally spoke "shape shifters are special"
"thank you captain obvious" he mumbled to himself
I ignored him and continued "we don't technically die," that caught and held his attention
