To Taz's disappointment, the reconstruction of the math classes had been very successful and they were fully back in use. Her classes had started again but Up wanted to continue tutoring Taz as she needed a little extra help. Taz had a calculus mock exam today and although Up had given her numerous lessons now, she still didn't seem to understand it. To make it worse, Taz's calculus professor recognised her struggle and had a habit of picking on her, particularly with the tougher questions. Today was unfortunately no different.
"Alright class. So as you are all aware today is your mock exam, one out of three of the mock exams you will have before your finals. Let's have a little practice shall we?"
'No' Taz said in her mind. Mr Hark was a very pompous character, thought highly of only by the most intelligent students.
"Huh. Let's see. Miss Ziera?"
"Si señor?" Taz replied with a tone of complete expectancy.
"Can you tell me if this equation is true or false? The two functions f and g defined by f(x) = 3x + 3 for x real and g(t) = 3t + 3 for t real and positive."
Taz had almost given up but she remembered something about this from about half a week ago. Up had become more determine to help Taz and it looks like it had actually worked.
"False señor. Two functions are equal if deir rules are equal and deir domains are de same." Taz silenced professor Hark and smirked.
"Stick dat in your pipe and smoke it." She muttered.
"Right...yes...well. Moving on." Hark was baffled and however badly Taz wanted to flaunt it in his face, she didn't want to draw any more attention to herself. If Taz was honest, she would admit that she was shocked by what came out of her mouth. It was the first time she'd ever vaguely understood anything to do with calculus. It gave her a little confidence boost and although the Taz knew that she had a long way to go, at least she had a start. She couldn't wait to go and tell Up, he'd be so proud. She then remembered what Beth and Layla had told her, they said that Up liked her which of course was funny to hear as they were secretly together but still.
'I wonder whose spreading de gossip about Up and I?' Up knew a lot more people than Taz did but she knew a few people and knew it would be the trouble stirrers that were spreading. It wasn't really that big of a deal but Taz hated dramatic situations so she wanted to put a stop to it. The bell rang for the end of class and Taz slammed down her test paper on her desk and bolted towards the door where Up would meet her and they'd go to lunch, it had become a habit since her first days as calculus was a building near the back of the academy so as everyone ran off to lunch, it was difficult to follow people to the hall.
"Miss Ziera, could you hold up for a minute?"
'No no no no no no...' She just wanted to get out and thank Up for helping her ace the questions. She was unsure that the test went well but there were a few questions which she was able to answer reasonably confidently. But she couldn't disobey a professor.
"Yes sir." Taz said with as little expression as she could manage to make it obvious she didn't want to chat.
"You did very well today Miss Ziera. You know that was a high level question I asked you?"
"Den why did you ask me it? You know I'm not good at calculus." She asked in monotone.
"Well you seemed pretty fine today?"
"I've been focusing on it outside of lessons. Up says I cannot graduate without it." Taz wanted to leave desperately but Hark seemed keen on keeping her for as long as possible.
"Up is correct. However..."Up was waiting for Taz to come out of her calculus test and he had arrived a few minutes early so he waited for the bell to ring. When it did, all the other students in Taz's class rushed out but Taz wasn't there. He waited for a minute or so before peering in to the classroom. He saw Taz talking to Mr Hark. Up got into a position so he could just see them aswell as hearing them but staying out of sight. Up heard his name.
"Up is correct. However... There is another way you could pass this test, a way that I can overlook whatever mark you get and pass you anyway."
'What the hell is he on about?' Coincidentally, Taz and Up were thinking the same thing.
"You see Taz, I'm a man who can appreciate compromises. Ever year a I get a girl or two who just can't seem to get ahold of calculus so I make a deal with them. They give me something in return for a pass."
Up could not believe what he was hearing. He pulled out his phone and starting filming what was going on. Was Hark gonna get Taz to pay him? Up prayed Taz wouldn't give into whatever he was suggesting.
"You're a beautiful girl Taz. You know the thought of a Hispanic beauty pleasuring me really gets me going. Are you a virgin Taz? Because I don't mind taken that burden off you and if you're not then I know that I can leave you to do what you know about." Hark finished with a contorted smile.
Taz could not believe what she was hearing. Part of her was petrified and the other was furious. Hark was sat in his chair in front of Taz as he reached out to take her waist. Luckily for Taz, her fury took over. She fired a punched which caught his cheek bone and Taz was sure she heard a crack.
"Sick bastard" and with that she stormed out.
Up stopped the filming and put his phone in his pocket. He leant into the doorway and smirked at Hark and Taz walked towards him, not that she'd noticed him yet.
"Hey Mr Hark? I would advise you not to make anymore 'compromises' with students." Up walked in and went up to where Hark was sitting.
"And if you ever touch my girl again, you'll wish you were never born." Up spoke harshly. Taz watched her boyfriend and a reminder of how hot he really was came over her. Harks eyes narrowed in fear as Up slammed the door. Taz smirked at Up. He could tell Taz was still furious but after he told her the whole thing was filmed she relaxed about it.
"Let's go to Millers office and that that idiot fired." Beneath his pride for his girlfriend, Up was angry as hell. Seeing another man hit on his girl sparked fury. He knew Taz would never give into that but the thought made Up sick to the stomach.
"I would never do dat, you know. What Mr Hark wanted." Taz remarked quietly.
"I know Taz, I know." That was all that was said on the way to Millers office. When they arrived, Miller wasn't in his office so they waited outside before he came bustling through. He caught a glimpse of Taz and his face hardened.
"You." He fiercely remarked. Up looked at Taz as Taz looked at Miller.
"You cannot assault a professor at this school without there being serious consequences. What on earth do you think you were doing? Violence is restricted and only permitted in classes where it is taught." Taz's blood turned fiery hot.
"ESE HIJO DE PUTA ESTABA TRATANDA DE-"
"Taz, english." Up whispered.
"Siento." She replied calmly.
"BUT DAT SON OF A BITCH WAS TRYING TO FEEL ME UP." Miller looked horrified at Taz.
"Miss Ziera. You do realise that you are making a serious accusation here." 'Wouldn't be the first.' Taz thought about the old combat coach they turned in for drinking. She looked at Up asking for help and he pulled out his phone, tapped in the video and handed it to Miller. As he listened to what was being said, his facial expressions changed from confusion to anger to horrified to furious.
"We realise it's a serious accusation sir but it's also a serious offence. Taz was defending herself from a fully grown man who was making sexual advances on her." Millers face was still red with fury but he managed to look at Taz apologetically.
"Miss Ziera I do apologise. I understand why you would feel the need to lash out and I can only assure you that this will be sorted." Taz nodded and they were dismissed.
"He won't punish you for punching him, Millers not stupid and knows that you could press charges against Hark which would lead to Miller getting into serious trouble for hiring teachers who aren't fit to teach." Up said reassuringly.
"Yeah. I guess he's got a pretty bad record at de moment. Dat is de second teacher we have gotten fired this year." Taz giggled a little and Up smiled. They walked towards Up's dorm in silence. Taz wasn't sure what to say and Up was concerned about her.
"Were you scared? When he was... You know...?" Up asked cautiously. He didn't want to upset Taz or make her angry or anything.
Taz sighed.
"I was a little bit. I was half scared half angry and I think my body wanted me to be angry so it lashed out."
"Your body is good with impulsive moments then huh? That's a good thing, especially if you wanna be a ranger." Up winked. They had spoken about being Rangers, Taz knew a lot more about it since joining the academy, mainly thanks to Up. Then a thought hit Taz.
"Up...?"
"Uh huh?" He casually asked, not noticing the concern in her voice.
"What happens when you graduate next year and I'm here on my own?" The thought of being without Up for a whole year tortured Taz. Up however was smiling happily. He had already thought about this and even taken it up with Miller.
"Don't worry about that. After I graduate, I'm spending one year teaching combat here at the academy. Miller already agreed and coach Saunders was pleased to hear about it."
A wave of relief washed over Taz.
"Wait, when were you planning on telling me dis?" She asked with a tinge of sourness.
"When you asked. Which is now." He replied smugly.
"I really don't like you sometimes." Taz sneered.
"Yeah ya do." Up replied as he picked her up and twisted her into his back. Taz considered fighting back but she could feel Up's arm muscles if she stayed there. No wonder the school was suspicious. Then she remembered another thing she wanted to tell up.
She laughed for a bit before finally saying-
"You'll never guess what Beth and Layla told me today... Apparently you are crushing on me." Both Taz and up fell into fits of giggles before finally reaching Up's room and settling down.
