"Once you fall in love, those feelings never leave. Though you may no longer 'like' that person, you'll always care to some extent." ~Unknown
Henry was lost in thought as he stared blankly at a book in his hand, and then a loud noise from upstairs made him jump in surprise. "Abe, is something wrong?"
He didn't wait to receive an answer before rushing upstairs from the basement and up the other set of stairs to the living quarters above the shop. Once he was up there he relaxed slightly as he saw Abe walking out of the hallway, though he was a bit surprised to find Jaylyn limping after him.
"Henry." She greeted.
"Did you climb in through a window?" He frowned slightly.
Jaylyn nodded and leaned against the wall, avoiding eye contact with him and Abe. "Yes, he would know where I went if I just walked in the front doors... he's already coming here now."
"Adam?" Abe clarified questioningly.
"Yeah." Henry noticed her movements were stiff as she moved to look out the front window. "It seems he's not overly happy with me at the moment, I don't blame him."
"What did you do?" He asked suspiciously, not wanting to start a fight in his home.
"What haven't I done?" She muttered more to herself before responding. "I betray him in a way he can't forgive... twice. And it is worse than taking his precious dagger if that's what you're thinking."
"I would like to know what I'm getting into when Adam comes breaking down the door."
"He'll pick the lock not break it down." Jaylyn corrected before avoiding the question by changing the subject. "I just realized how you always see me injured lately... How's Jo, is she still in critical condition? I would check on her but you know... I'm supposed to be dead."
Henry was about to answer and switch the topic back when footsteps downstairs made him go silent. Jaylyn watched the stairs like a cat watches a mouse before backing into the shadowy hall, wincing as the floor creaked. He sighed before turning away from her, he couldn't give her away, Adam would use her blood to paint the city with crimson by the way she acted. No, he would send the other immortal away quickly... and then make Jaylyn tell him what was going on.
"You shouldn't just walk into places without being invited." Henry commented boldly as he got to the bottom of the steps.
Adam watched him carefully before his gaze flittered around the shop, taking in every detail. "What would you do to stop me Henry, kill me? I doubt it."
"What do you want?" Henry gritted his teeth in anger.
"Just tell Jaylyn to come down here, I promise I just want to talk." The older immortal replied, though Henry could see his hand tighten around something in his pocket.
"I haven't seen her."
He looked at Henry for a bit, a slight frown on his face before taking a few threatening steps closer. "You're a terrible liar, Henry."
Scuffling noises rose from the back of the shop and Henry looked back in confusion while Adam walked past with a victorious look upon his features. That didn't last long once a gunshot went off and the bullet ripped through him. Two alarmed shouts came from upstairs followed by footsteps but Henry was now focused on the shadowy figure running towards the side door in back. He started to go after them but felt a hand grab his ankle.
