"Beware of keeping secrets, because surely what's done in the dark will eventually come to the light. It's better to be honest and confess rather than hide the truth." ~ D. Smith
It was early in the morning when Adam stepped into the quiet hospital, only a few nurses could be seen walking about to attend to patients as he walked the now familiar halls. His footsteps barely left an echo as he walked through the building to the elevator, which took him up to the third floor, where he started to walk down the empty halls once more. It didn't take long for him to arrive at a small hospital room with only the dawn light currently filtering through the window, he stepped inside and sent a quick glance at Henry who was already there.
The other immortal gave him a small nod in greeting as he rose from his chair and walked over. "She's awake."
"I could've told him that Henry." Jaylyn spoke up from behind him, though Adam took notice that it was still weak, strong than last time he'd heard her talking, but weak.
Adam walked over to her and looked down at her frail form. "You should have told us what happened to you."
She scowled at him and put some force into her words. "Awake for barely five minutes and I'm being lectured, can you believe him Henry?"
Adam smirked just slightly as she sent him a grin, it was good to see her old spirit was back. Dark thoughts quickly took over the brief relief. "What if I hadn't found you in time? We could've been at the funeral home."
"We still could be soon." Pain laced her dull gaze. "I might've been unconscious but I heard what the doctors said... It isn't looking good recovery wise."
"Don't say that." Henry spoke up as he stood by her side. "Even if you don't heal you'll come back. It's going to be alright."
"Is it?" Jaylyn questioned tiredly. "If I was going to be killed permanently and it was stopped... am I still immortal or has the curse been broken?"
Adam didn't have an answer to that and looking over at Henry, it seemed like the other immortal was clueless as well. It was true, that thought had crossed their minds though, which was one reason Jaylyn was here instead of allowing her to die.
"I see no reason why the curse would have been lifted." Adam chose his words carefully. "But if it has then it shouldn't matter, you have been through worse right?"
"At least then I knew I could come back." She sighed as her eyes closed.
Henry started to leave before turning to look back at Adam. "I'll be back later to check on her, Jo needs me to solve a case, I have Lucas working on it but I can't let him do everything."
"I'll keep an eye on her." Adam promised, a bit surprised at the trust Henry was now putting in him.
Once Henry was gone Jaylyn sat up with a glare at him. "Did you have to stab me that hard? Seriously, I'm surprised I didn't just die right there."
"You did... for five minutes." Adam sat down in the chair. "Your mind was still active though so I was able to bring you back... barely."
"Why did you do it?" She asked quietly, her green eyes stared into his soul.
"I couldn't let you die." Adam returned her gaze evenly for a few moments before looking at the wall. "Especially not to those monsters."
"I'm going to get you killed for good one of these days." Her eyes closed again as she started to drift off. "You should... should run while you still can."
Adam was silent for a few moments before speaking to her now sleeping form. "I never run... not again."
