Chapter One, What Makes you Beautiful

Katie felt the blow before her brain could follow. "Ouch!" She through her arms out, and pushed her sister away, who was pushing back, she through the box back towards the bed and heard an irritated sigh. "We have to get this done!" Her sister's chest was heaving in anger, "I told you not to touch it, it's mine!" Katie through her hands up in surrender, "It's a piece of candy! Now stop bitching, we have to finish these. Two days Cassie, or do I have to remind you!" Cassie's face hardened, but she turned back to the signs, mumbling, "It was my piece of candy." Katie looked over at her friend and shrugged. It wasn't Katie who stole the candy, it was her. She bite her lip in guilt. "Hey Fuck Fish," Katie said from the floor, "Care to help?" She put the book she was reading in her lap, chuckling, "Nope; you can do the work. It's not like I'm going with anyway." Katie kicked her leg out, curling her toes. She'd been on the floor for hours, her toes lost their feeling. "Fine, then you could at least feed us." Korina looked up from her book and grabbed her purse, "I'm tired of cooking, how about we go get a pizza?" Cassie stood hastily, "Yup," She said smiling. Korina held back laughter, and Katie stood as well. "Fine, but I want my own damn drink. Tired of sharing shit with you two." Korina rolled her eyes, "Two months living together an you're already done?" Katie smirked, "I just don't want whatever she has." Korina laughed and Cassie hit them both, "How is that the one who has a boyfriend isn't called the slut?" Cassie called while following them down the hallway. Korina gasped in mock shock, "How dare you? I've never once had sex." Cassie through her hands up, "Neither have I!" Both Korina and Katie looked back at her. She swore under her breath, "I hate you both," She pushed passed them both. Katie laughed and shut the door behind her.

"Okay fine, but that still doesn't fit. Look," Korina had finished her book and given in to helping. She was the one who drew, so they wanted her to draw. "I'd have to cut half his face off." Cassie pouted, "You can't cut Louis' face off! It's Louis!" Korina sighed, contemplating on her life decisions, "I know that Cassie... How about I cut Zayn out?" Katie and Cassie looked at each other, but sat back in defeat, "Fine," They both barked. Korina frowned, remembering what that day was like for them. She tried to  defuse the situation by standing and turning the TV on. "I can do this later, lets watch Supernatural." They both went to object but Korina stopped them. "You have your obsession I have mine, watch the episode, or leave my room." Katie stood, "I'll make popcorn." Korina stuck out her lip in approval, "Thanks Fam." They all gave a bark of laughter and Cassie and Korina started chatting about Destiel while Katie ran to the kitchen. 

Katie leaned back against the counter and listened to the radio that they left on all day in case of One Direction importune. Nialls' voice broke into the static and Katie stood straight. "Hello, I'm Niall Horan from One Direction..." He went on to say how psyched he was for the concert in two days, Katie couldn't do anything but agree. The microwave beeped and Katie popped open the bag and went back to the room, the radio station changing to a song about love and drugs. "Got it," She said, throwing herself on Korina bed. Katie liked it here. Korina had finally had enough at her place around six months ago and Katie and Cassie turned eighteen, so they didn't have to do anything but say they were old enough to move out. Cassie seemed to be happier too. Korina kept them from fighting a lot, but once Korina went to work in the morning, they fought it out, and went to work themselves. "Thanks," Korina mumbled, taking the bag and digging in, offering some to Katie. Katie sat back and couldn't help but look at her roommates. Katie and Korina met first, two years ago, when Korina accidentally kicked Katie in the leg while scooting her chair closer to the desk. Ever sense then, Their faults were the others faults. Cassie and Korina became close soon after that. Cassie told Korina things Katie didn't even think about. That's how they liked it, they loved each other in different ways and always would. 

"You know," Cassie said now, breaking into her stash of candy. "I don't see why they don't make it canon." Korinas' eyes lit, "I know right! Everyone can see how much they love each other, everyone. Even homophobes can." She through the word out like it was poison. Maybe because to Korina, it was. "You know, I think they will. I mean they're getting there right?" Korina shrugged, throwing the empty bag of popcorn into her trash bin in the corner of her room, "Yeah maybe." Katie stood, "It's almost seven, I have to shower; I work early tomorrow." Korina frowned, "I thought you took tomorrow and Wednesday off, for the concert?" Katie slipped out of her shoes, "I wanted the concert and the day after off. So I can sleep in." Korina shrugged, "Makes sense- Wait!" Katie jumped and turned around, "What?" Cassie laughed, "Shoes stupid." Katie rolled her eyes, "Korina, I'm coming back in here-" Korina stopped her, "Look at my room? How clean it is? The only things out of place in this room is you and your sisters shit. Pick up your shoes." Katie scoffed, but did as told.

After the shower Katie paused the playlist and listened. She didn't hear anything but the faint noise of music coming from Cassie's room. She ducked out of the bathroom and shut her door behind her. She dropped her towel and through on an old racers shirt, shoved her legs through and old pair of printed shorts and walked to the kitchen. "Jesus!" She caught her breath, "You scared me." She hissed. Korina choked on the milk she was draining from the carton, trying not to laugh. "I'm sorry," She was cut off, coughing hard. Katie flinch in guilt, "Sorry." Korina through her hand dismissively , "Don't be, what are you doing? Thought you were going to bed." Katie stalked towards the box of pizza, "I wanted a slice before Cassie got to it in the morning." Korina nodded, no other reason needed. 

"How's your dude?" Katie said between bites. Korina played with the fraying part of her shirt, and shrugged, "He's alright." She whispered almost to herself. Katie knew that Korina and her boyfriend were going through things. Mainly because Korina was busy and he didn't give a shit, but Katie knew she needed space. Katie just never thought it'd be from her. "You can tell me shit you know that right?" Korina laughed softly, "Yeah I know... I'm gonna go to bed. I love you, if I don't see you before you go; have fun." Katie wanted to ask her why she thought she wouldn't see her but, thought against it. Their working was out of control; trying to work more now, so when school comes around they won't be broke. Katie threw the crust back in the box and took a water bottle back to her room, falling into bed.
