Chapter Four, More Than This

August 28th, 2015

Katie heard Korina pull up before she saw her, and Cassie was opening the trunk before Katie could tell her too. Katie just couldn't do anything, her feet hurt and her eyes just wouldn't open. Cold air hit her from the side, telling her Cassie got out to get their things. Her door was being opened, "Hey Super Fan, come on." Korina said softly. Katie mumbled, and  stumbled out of the car. "Mhm, yeah." She stalked towards Korinas' car and through herself in the back seat, cuddling with one of the many blankets in the back seat. 

Katie awoke to Cassie and Korina talking and laughing. "She about flipped I'll tell you!" Cassie chuckled. Korina turned right onto a dark street. "I'm sure you would have too. You weren't close?" Cassie coughed, blushing, "I was trying to get Louis' attention." Korina chuckled, "Did you?" Cassie laughed, "Yes, he smiled at me Donnie; Smiled." Katie almost automatically smiled at the nickname. 

Katie sat up slowly and scanned the road, "Where are we?" Korina jumped, "Shit, you scared me... We're about thirty minutes away. You're friend made it home alright." Katie nodded to herself and laid back, "Tuna," She said, expressing yet another nickname, "I saw him. He saw me, he knows I exist." Tears burned the back of her throat and she cleared it away, breathing hard. "He saw me." Korina looked at Katie through the rear-view mirror and smiled lightly, "He did, and he thought you were gorgeous," She looked at Cassie, "The both of you." Katie's tears fell, and she looked out the window, biting the inside of her cheek.

She slept most of the day, woke up around four in the afternoon or so; starving and raging for food. The aroma  was captivating, so she stumbled out of bed quickly. Cassie was laying her head against the counter top, sitting on one of the four stools at the island. "Morning," Katie mumbled and went to the stove, "Mmm," She breathed the bacon and potatoes in. "Where's Korina?" Cassie mumbled. Katie turned, "What?" Korina padded into kitchen with slippers and a robe: towel restraining her hair, "She said I was showering. I figured if Cassie was semi watching the food I could jump in the shower before work." She yawned and pointed her finger towards the stove, "Shut that off will ya?" Katie didn't say anything, but did as asked. 

They sat quietly at the island, eating breakfast and thinking. All about different things. Cassie had a big date later that day. Korina was planning on breaking up with her boyfriend. Katie, on the other hand, had no work today, and sure as hell had no date. She planned on sleeping, showering, and looking through all the pictures and videos they took. "Alright fellas," Korina said, grabbing her nerd purse, "I gotta go. I'll see you guys later." She was walking towards the door when both Cassie and Katie said bye in response, "Have fun dating Cassie, Katie; whatever the hell you're doing, Love you!" She slammed the door behind her. 

"Katie!" Cassie yelled from the bathroom. Katie through her body down on the bed in boredom, "What?!" She yelled. "I need help!" Katie made a noise that wasn't pleasant, and she stood tiredly. "With what?" She kicked the bathroom door open and stood, her eyes open wide. "Uh," She choked on a laugh, and couldn't hold it back. "Never mind get out!" Katie covered her mouth, "No, no come on!" She kicked the door shut behind her and went to help her sister. Her head was stuck in the sleeve part of a very beautiful, but confusing, silk shirt.

"Have fun!" She screamed as the door shut behind her sister. Katie lay on the living room floor, looking at the TV, watching reruns of Criminal Minds. She really wanted a couch, but Korina didn't want to take anything from anyone with out her getting it herself. Both Katie and Cassie had agreed. She rolled onto her stomach and closed her eyes, and blue ones shot through her memory. She inhaled, her heart giving way. She blinked, scanning the room. "Damn," She said to herself. She didn't care to much for being home alone. Korina got out around 12 tonight, and who knew how late Cassie would come home, if she even did. 

She decided to order a pizza and was extremely disappointed when it turned out to be Korina's boyfriend. Ex boyfriend? Who knew now a days. "Hey," She said tiredly. "That'll be-" She shoved the cash into his hand, "I know how much it is, they told me on the phone." His eyes shone: maybe she hurt his feelings. Seeing Korina yawn at four in the afternoon washed before her eyes, and she know longer cared how she sounded to him. He obviously hurt her best friend. "Ouch, what's your problem?" She grabbed the pizza and went to the counter, him shutting the door behind them. "Look, I just want to talk to Korina." Katie sighed in anger, "She's not here man, so you can go now." He scoffed, "What is your problem? We used to be friends you know?" She whirled on him, "Yeah, yeah maybe we did, but you obviously broke Korina's heart. Hell you don't even know her work schedule. Is that why she broke up with you?" He staggered back, "She didn't... I mean," He stepped back, "Not yet." He scanned the room anxiously, and left without another word. Katie sighed in guilt, "Shit." 

"You what?!" Korina yelled from the other end of the phone. It was eight-thirty at night and Korina had called her to make sure she was alright. It went terrible. "I'm sorry, he was pissing me off!" She could hear the intake of anger in Korina's voice, "Oh I'm sorry, are you okay?" She said sarcastically. Katie sighed, aggravated, "Look I'm sorry. I did you a favor though." She said, hopeful. This would be the first fight they'd ever had, and she wasn't looking forward to it. "Did me a-" She cut off, "Are you serious? Come on Katie!" Katie stood from her bed and sighed, "I'm sorry," She said practically to herself. "Yeah," She heard from the other end, "I'm gonna need a little more then that." The call went dead, and Katie sat back down and put her head in her hands.
