Chapter 41: You Will

Blackpaw, Rowanpaw, and Cedarpaw stood proudly before Blackstar as they were named warriors.

"I, Blackstar, leader of Shadowclan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on these apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and will be made warriors in their turn. Blackpaw, Cedarpaw, Rowanpaw, do you promise to defend and protect your clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do!" They chanted.

"Then by the power of Starclan, i give you your names. Rowanpaw, you shall be known as Rowanclaw. Cedarpaw, you shall be known as Cedarheart. And Blackpaw, you shall be known as Blackheart. We welcome you as full warriors of Shadowclan." Blackstar walked up to the new warriors and rested his muzzle on their heads. They licked his shoulder in return. The other cats of Shadowclan started returning to their dens, but Rowanclaw, Cedarheart, and Blackheart must sit vigil for the night.

Blackheart forced his eyes to stay open as the moon slowly drifted across the night sky. The stars shown brightly as Starclan looked down upon them. Suddenly, a wind ruffled his fur, but he did not dare break the silence. The wind blew harder and colder, but the other new warriors didn't seem to notice. The black warrior turned his head to the source and saw Electricwind and Eclipsestorm. Blackheart's eyes grew wide, but his face was disgust.

"Why are looking to Starclan and not to me?" Electricwind asked.

"Shut. It." Blackheart hissed through gritted teeth.

"No, i am curious. After all, you have just broke the vigil by speaking to me." Electricwind's voice seemed to grow louder.

"They will hear you." Blackheart whispered.

"Only you can hear her." Eclipsestorm said. Blackheart carefully stood up and tip toed over to them. Clouds started covering the moon, but Rowanclaw and Cedarheart were too sleepy to notice anything.

"Now, answer my question. Why are you looking to Starclan?" Electricwind asked again.

"Because...they guide us." Blackheart said awkwardly.

"You don't have an answer. But you do have an answer as to why you will follow me. I can give you so much more than those starry fools ever will! I will be the reason you become leader. Not them." Electricwind growled.

"But, they give me my nine lives! If i do become leader.."

"You will! Look at Brokenstar, Starclan gave him nine lives, but did he look to them? NO!" 

"But i'm not Brokenstar!" Blackheart mewed.

"He's right you know." Eclipsestorm said.

"Your opinion doesn't count!" Electricwind yowled. "I am the reason you will ever be significant. I can give you what you want most."

"What do i want, then?"

"To ki-" Electricwind was cut off.

"Blackheart! Get back over here!" Rowanclaw hissed. Blackheart returned to his place in the clearing, but when he looked back, Electricwind and Eclipsestorm had disappeared.
