The room never quite resets after that.

It tries to.

Mike Diamond launches right back into arguing about the track like nothing happened. He's loud on purpose now, filling the space, tossing energy around like it'll soak up whatever just cracked open.

"—I'm telling you, if we layer the hook again—"

"No," Adam Horovitz cuts in, too quickly. "It gets muddy."

"It doesn't—"

"It does."

They go back and forth, sharper than before. Not playful. Not quite a fight either. Just... off.

Mel stays quiet this time.

That's new.

She drifts toward the back wall, arms folded loosely, watching them—but not really there with them. Her mind keeps circling that moment. The way Ad looked at her. The way he didn't deny it.

The way he couldn't.

Across the room, Adam Yauch notices.

Of course he does.

He's always been the one who notices.

He tries to pull himself back into the music, scribbling something down, nodding along—but his eyes flick up, again and again. To Mel. To Ad. To the invisible line stretched tight between them.

It's not jealousy, exactly.

It's recognition.

They wrap later than usual.

No one says it, but everyone feels it—there's no point pushing it tonight.

Mike grabs his jacket first. "I'm starving. I'm getting pizza. Anyone normal can come."

"I'm always normal," Ad mutters.

"Debatable."

Yauch stands, stretching a little. "I'll come with you."

He says it casually—but there's intention in it.

He glances at Mel.

"Walk you out?"

She hesitates.

Just for a second.

Then nods. "Yeah."

Ad watches them head for the door together.

Doesn't move.

Doesn't say anything.

Just watches.

Outside, the air is cooler. Quieter.

Mel pulls her jacket tighter around her, exhaling slowly.

Yauch walks beside her, hands in his pockets.

For a few steps, neither of them speaks.

Then—

"Are you okay?" he asks.

She huffs a small laugh. "That obvious?"

"Only if you know you."

She glances at him, something soft in her expression.

"That's unfair," she says.

"What is?"

"You always know what to say."

"I don't," he says simply. "I just... say what's already there."

That lands.

She looks ahead again, chewing on that.
