Author’s Note: Here we are at the end. The final chapter. I can’t quite believe I’ve done it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this (I’ll do my thank you ramble at the end xD)

I woke up on Charlie’s floor and I groaned as the pain in my limbs took hold. I looked across to where Charlie’s bed was to find him sitting on it. I got up wincing and my knees cracked. “Are you alright?” Said Charlie.

“I’m fine. Now I am, anyway.”  Charlie got up and went to the door “where are you going? You’re ill, you have to stay in bed.”

He raised a hand to his forehead and shrugged “I’m ok now. I’ll just tell my parents that-“

“Your parents!” I shrieked, remembering them lying there sleeping.

“What about them?” Said Charlie, his brow furrowing.

“Yes, what about them?” Said his mum standing at the door.

I breathed a sigh of relief “I couldn’t find you when I came and the door was open. I didn’t know what had happened.”

“It was rather funny, actually.” She said “we were all just asleep...I guess we must have been really tired.” Then she frowned and looked at Charlie “and what are you doing out of bed? You-“

“I’m fine, Mum. Honestly.” He grinned “I’m home now.” Charlie’s mum gave him a funny look and, when she went down the stairs, we erupted into a fit of laughter.

*****

It was a few days later when we were in the park, sitting on a bench looking into the trees. Almost the same spot Lewis had met me that night. The light breeze felt nice against my skin it was good to be alive, I must say. You never really think about that in a day. You never think how nice it is to feel the sun and the breeze on your face. How nice it is to hear the birds sing and people talk. And, another thing. How often do you sit and think about how lucky you are to have your best friend? I did it a couple of times but it never hit home like this before. “You’ll always be my best friend, Charlie.”

“Really? And there was me thinking I’d be rid of you in the next year.” He said grinning and putting an arm around me.

“If I died tomorrow-“

“Don’t.” He said.

“-and I went to the next life without you, when you came across at the end of your life, you’d still be my best friend. No matter what you’d done in those years and years without me, I’d never forget. No matter who else I met in that other life...you’d still be my best friend. That’s the sort of friend you are.”

“If you died tomorrow, Lily. After all we’ve been through, I would-“

“Don’t even say it. I don’t want to hear it.” I said, turning my head.

“You really think I’d wait all those years to see you again?”

“Probably not.” I shrugged “being the stubborn, over protective-“

“Ok, ok!” Said Charlie, laughing “I get it. But it doesn’t change the way I’m going to act.”

“I’m glad. It wouldn’t be the same if you changed.”

“But you did, didn’t you?” He said quietly “you can see souls now.”

“Only a bit.” I said “Lewis said it wouldn’t be as strong as it was in the place of the Lost.”

“I’ll always be able to see them but...is it a gift or a curse?”

“Neither. It’s you.”

Charlie smiled “I like that. That’s a good one.”

“Do you think our lives will be normal now? After all this?”

“I think they’ll be mainly pleasant. I don’t think anything this bad is going to happen again but, if it does, it’s fine. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t exactly enjoy this...but the end result was nice, don’t you think?”

“I don’t think I’ll ever get over the feeling of seeing all those souls go free. It’s engraved in my mind forever.”

I didn’t know what was going to come next. I didn’t know if anything would. But, whatever did come, I’d be alright. This had shown me things. Shown me that even in the worst moments, there is always hope and you can pull through if you just try hard enough. But, I think, the most important thing I had realised was friendship. Friendship overcomes all. So, no matter what happened next, it didn’t matter. Because I had hope and will and friendship. That was all I needed.

Author’s Note: So, here we are at the end. I can’t believe I’ve done it! Thank you, everyone, who has supported me. Thank you for leaving your lovely comments for me. Thank you for enjoying this story because you gave me the motivation to finish. Thank you...so much. And, if I want you to take anything out of this story, it will be to appreciate your friends. You don’t realise what you have until its gone...don’t let it come to that. Let there be more special souls in this world by realising who your friends are :)

The curtain may be going down for this story, but it will rise for another. Don’t worry, this is not the end of my writing! My new story ‘Curtain Down’ will be up within the hour...in fact, it will be up within the next few minutes ^_^ It is indeed fantasy/horror so I hope you will go and check it out. Can I have show of hands who might think of taking a look? Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much as you did this story, if not more.

Thank you Thank you Thank you for all your help and I am so very glad to finish this story!
