The two women exchanged looks of confusion, “Why don’t you tell me your name, eat and then help me understand why you think you don’t have a mate. Is that okay?” Mary asked, walking over to the bed to pull out one of Sara’s pills.
“O-okay.” Swallowing the tiny blue colored thing she sat down on the bed and pulled the tray towards her, “M-my name is S-Sara, Sara Adair.”
“Hello Sara, can you tell me what pack you hale from?” shaking her head viciously she curled her knees closer to her body. “No? That’s quite all right. Go ahead and eat.” While she ate the two women busied themselves cleaning the room and talking.
“So Mary, I hear a little one might be entering your lives soon. Is it true?”
“Aye, it is! Justin will have a baby sister on the way! His poor father almost had a heart attack when I told him, just sat there in his study with a blank face. I almost though I would have to call Joe in!”
Betty gently rubbed her own belly, “Tom says I have two more months before these are born. Stubborn little monsters they are! They don’t let me sleep much.”
Mary laughed as she hung up a clean shirt. “Men, I bet you a whole week worth of dinners they’re a month early! They don’t know how these things work, hell I bet if you made one of them pregnant they’d be asking us what to do in a heart beat!”
Sara slid into the clothes provided by Betty before trying to help clean up, “Oh no you don’t!” Mary chastised, taking the tray from her, “A Luna in your condition doesn’t clean up! You should be resting!”
“B-But I’m not the L-Luna!” she protested, sliding forward to take the tray from the older woman’s hands, “A-And besides, I’m used to c-cleaning.” Betty halted Mary’s protest.
“Let her. She needs some exercise anyway!” The plump woman opened the bedroom door, “Come on! We’ll show you the way to the kitchen!” smiling slightly at Betty she followed them down the stairs and into an empty kitchen where Sara started to hand wash the dishes she had used.
“No.” Mary murmured, taking it from her wet hands, “We have a dishwasher who’s name isn’t Sara right over there.” Letting the older woman place them in the machine she stood back and looked around.
“W-where is the p-pack?”
“This is the alpha’s home, separate from the pack house. Unless something really bad is happening then he won’t live at the pack house. Me and Tom are allowed to stay because Tom is Justin’s elder brother who didn’t inherit the alpha genetics.” She giggled, “And since I’m the beta’s mate then I have to go where Tom goes.”
Sara was about to reply when two male voices came from the kitchen entrance, “I see our new pack member has decided to explore.” In the doorway stood Justin with a tender smile on his face while a older man with gray-white hair stood behind him.
Before she could realize that she was trapped the older man stepped forward, spooking her. Mary instantly wrapped her arms around her; holding Sara down, “Stay back, Mark. She isn’t used to unknown people.” Struggling to get away, to flee back to the room, she looked to Betty for help but the woman was ignoring her.
“Hey now.” Mark said, crouching down so he was at her level after she wormed her way down to Mary’s feet. “I’m not going to hurt you. My names Mark, Justin’s father.” Staring wide-eyed at the man she carefully sniffed the air.
What she was looking for was the scent of Mary on him. If they were mates then Mary’s scent would be on his skin. Liking the results she got, Sara relaxed back a bit. Mark smiled wider and turned to look at the alpha, “She’s going to need a lot of work, son.”
“I know.” Justin stated quietly, having come up behind his father, “But once we figure out what pack she came from then we can break the bonds with them for her and introduce our pack bond.”
They wanted to break a pack bond? Was it even possible? Suddenly realizing she was trembling so hard she was shaking Mary’s legs she tried to stop, whimpering when Mark reached out to pet her head, “Why don’t we head into the living room and talk about it over a cup of coffee, would you like that?” he asked, looking at Sara for approval.
Liking this man more and more by the minute she nodded. They slowly made their way to the empty living room, the women moving first so Sara could pick her safe place. With Mary to her right and the couch armrest to her left she relaxed down into the soft cushion.
“So little one, what is your name?” Mark asked, coming back as the coffee started to brew.
“S-Sara Adair.”
“Ah, I have heard that name once. Something about a rouge attack. But never mind that, tell me your age.” Mary commented, gently pulling a blanket around Sara’s legs.
“I-I turn eighteen in a m-month.”
Justin seemed to perk up at that, “She has to renew her pack bond on her eighteenth night…”
“We will be putting that subject away from now. I causes Sara distress and we don’t want that.” Betty almost growled, “Leave it, Justin.”
It felt a bit out of place sitting in a warm living room with people around her that weren’t prone to violent outbursts. They didn’t once raise their voices, gently questioning her until the coffee timer went off, “I’ll get it.” Mary announced, pulling Betty out with her.
“So Sara,” Mark said, sitting down in Mary’s spot. “Can you tell me why you are no longer with your pack? I need to know this if you don’t wish to be returned to them.” shaking her head violently Sara curled up into herself, finding it hard to hold back the tears when memories of her old pack washed up in her mind.
“Hey now, no tears.” He murmured. Justin stood and walked off, his hands tense in anger.
“I-I mad him mad.” She whispered.
“No sweetheart, he just doesn’t like the fact that you are too afraid to tell us anything. We want to help you.”
“B-but I don’t want you guys to get hurt.” Sara sniffled; tears flowing freely down her face now. She yelped lightly when mark pulled her into his lap like her father used to do and started rocking her.
At first she struggled, not liking the feel of a man’s arms around her body. But slowly as her memories slammed through her mind, one after the other, she curled up into his embrace and sobbed.
Betty and Mary came running into the living room while Justin was already kneeling beside them, “Let her cry. She needs this.” When she couldn’t produce more tears he picked her up and laid her on the couch whispering, “Rest little one. You are safe.”
