Sara found she liked sitting down and eating with Justin. There wasn’t a second that went by that she thought of hiding or running. She told him everything she knew about her mother. Her hobbies, her likes, dislikes and even her biggest secret. “She never wanted to be a werewolf.”

“Really?” Justin murmured, sipping his wine, “Why? Did something bad happen with her wolf?”

Sara nodded, sipping her own red liquid. She rarely drank but it was a way to soothe her nerves. “She birthed me while in wolf form, meaning I stayed in pup form for over three years before finally shifting back. During that time the old alpha tried to force me to shift and hurt me in the process. Mother’s wolf didn’t like it and she killed him. Her own father.”

He whistled. “Wow. So you’re a true moon child.” she hummed in agreement. “Those are rare. So what happened next?”

“She locked her wolf away, never let her out again. Father hated me for it. Said because of me mother was never the same.” Sara sighed, “I don’t wanna talk anymore. I’m tired.” Justin chuckled and leaned in slowly to take her empty glass.

“Then to bed it is.” Giggling she stumbled up the stairs and into the bedroom. Before Justin could join her she was passed out under the sheets.

Her head felt like it was going to explode. Sara whined softly and curled up into herself. When she finally opened her eyes she saw a note on the pillow beside her.

Sara,

Take the aspirin and drink a lot of water. I’ll be back tonight for dinner.

Justin.

Taking his advice she quickly swallowed the three pills and drank the tall glass of cold water before stumbling to the bathroom to take a much-needed shower.

After padding from the bathroom she decided to explore the house and find out where she could get some clothes. In the closet were all his clothes, handing neatly in perfect rows while Justin’s shoes were shined and set evenly on the ground.

Taking a deep breath, Sara explored the next room. There were no clothes. After searching the entire second floor she turned to the main floor, creeping down the stairs while clutching the long fluffy towel closer to her body.

No one popped out. The house was almost deathly silent. Beginning her search again she didn’t notice the young female wolf enter the house until she was right behind her. “What the hell are you doing in my mate’s house?”

Sara whirled around, clutching the towel to her chest like a lifeline, “I-I-.”

“You one of his whores, right? My, my, I didn’t think he would take in any more strays but I was mistaken. Get the hell out of this house and don’t you ever return or I will make sure Justin kills you!”

Scrambling for the exit she could feel the tears well up in her eyes. He had lied. The man had lied to her, had been trying to use her like her old pack had. Pain rippled through her head as her wolf registered the same thing.

Oh Sara…I didn’t think he was like this…another female?

I-it’s all right, Whisper. He wasn’t the one for us anyway. Our mate wouldn’t want us as we are right now. We were lucky to have a few days to recover before leaving again. Sara shifted once she hit the door, running into the trees with her tail tucked, “And don’t you ever come back!” Justin’s mate snarled.

All she had to do was get out of his lands and she would be safe. However it seemed her chances had just dropped to zero. As she bound out of a cluster of trees Justin and a patrol of wolves stood blocking her way. His blue eyes glittered with some emotion she didn’t want to know.

“Leave us.” He growled softly to his pack, waiting until they were gone to try and approach her. Would he punish her for running before he could use her? Scared and slightly angry she tried to dodge around him but was flattened to the snowy ground by a large black paw. “Why are you running?”

“S-Stay away from me!” Sara whined, struggling against him even when he shifted to his human form. “N-no!” he forced her to shift back to human form by surrounding her with his power, tucking her into his arms afterwards.

“I’m not going to hurt you little one. You shouldn’t even be out of the house.” The tears were still falling even when he carried her into a warm home and started to towel her wet body off. “Why are you out here? Is something wrong at the house?”

Justin couldn’t believe it when one of his wolves told him his little mate was on the run and headed to the border. Quickly taking his small patrol to intercept her he instantly wanted to hold Sara in his arms.

The scared look that stayed on her face made his gut twist. “Leave us.” He growled, waiting until the patrol was galloping away to approach her. But she didn’t want him near her, struggling to get away from him even after he brought her to one of the patrol rest stops and started drying her off.

“Hey, little one you have to tell me what is wrong!”

“S-stay away from me!” she cried, huddling in a corner, “Y-you stay away!” still confused on what he had done he sat down by the only door and connected with his wolf.

What did you do? His wolf instantly questioned.

That’s the problem, I don’t know and she won’t tell me. He responded rubbing a caloused hand over his face.

I am trying to talk to her wolf but even she is ignoring me. Have you tried Betty or your mother? They might know what is going on.

Good idea.

“Mother, Betty. Have you been to my home today?”

“As a matter of fact yes. Margaret was there prancing around like she owned the place and Sara wasn’t in sight. I don’t know if she is still there or not.”

“She is with me. Did Margaret say anything to you?”

“Yes, actually. She said she chased some whore out of your house and that when you got back you would be proud enough to mate her.”

Justin snorted suddenly; startling the naked female across the room, “Place her in one of the pack cells. I will be speaking to her soon.”

“Mate, look at me.”

“I-I’m not your mate. I’ve told this to everyone, I don’t have a mate!” deciding he couldn’t broach the topic by filly footing around he padded up to her and growled softly.

“I am your mate and you are mine. If you think otherwise and can prove it then by all means do it. But until then you are mine. Mine to protect, mine to love and mine to care for.” She opened her mouth to protest but he silenced her with a finger. “Now, whom did you run into before running away?”

“Y-Your mate.”

Justin chuckled, “Margaret? That girl had been crowing for my attention since grade school, little mate. She doesn’t know, none of the pack members know about you yet. I don’t want to spook you by having a group of people around you constantly.”

“B-but she said-.”

“What she said is wrong. She just hasn’t found her mate yet and doesn’t know how it feels to really fall head over heels for someone.” He reached out to gently stroke her cheek only to have her flinch back, “You haven’t even eaten have you? Did you take the aspirin?”

“Y-yes.”

“Good.” With a shriek she was lifted up into his arms just as a car pulled up in front of the cabin. “It’s Tom. He will be driving us back to my house where you will dress, eat and get some rest. Sara, look at me.”

With her big green eyes trained on him he though he might get lost in the vibrant colors, “I won’t hurt you. Ever.”
