Later that night, Lisa was in Jisoo's room, sitting in front of her PC like she owned it.

Jisoo was lying on her bed with her injured leg propped up on a pillow, slowly throwing her basketball into the air and catching it again. She wasn't supposed to be moving around too much after therapy, so this was the closest thing she could do to feel normal.

The soft thud of the ball landing back in her hands was the only thing keeping her thoughts from getting too loud.

Lisa was busy doing something on her screen, probably checking her characters or arguing with someone in the guild chat. Every now and then, she would mutter something under her breath, click aggressively, then lean closer to the monitor like threatening the game with her face would somehow make it behave.

Normally, Jisoo would have said something, but tonight, she didn't.

She only kept throwing the ball up.

Her mind was somewhere else, well, mostly it was on Jennie.

Because apparently, her brain had decided to become useless and just focus on that one thought.

Jisoo stared at the ball as it spun above her.

She didn't know what to do with the fact that Jennie had made her feel better earlier.

It wasn't even some grand gesture. Jennie didn't give her some dramatic speech about believing in her or whatever nonsense people liked to say when they didn't know what else to do when it came to her situation. She just... stayed.

She didn't make Jisoo feel pathetic after therapy. She didn't push too much. She didn't hover even though Jisoo knew she wanted to. She carried her bag, parked close, waited when Jisoo needed a second on the stairs, and somehow managed not to make it feel like she was being babysat.

It was irritating.

Mostly because Jennie had always been like that.

Not always nice. Not always soft. God, no.

But back then, before everything went to hell, Jennie had this way of knowing what Jisoo needed without making her ask for it. When Jisoo was upset, Jennie didn't always say much. She just sat with her, or handed her food, or distracted her with some random question until Jisoo forgot she was supposed to be sad.

Today had felt a little too much like that.

Jisoo caught the ball and held it against her chest.

What was this? Were they actually going to be friends again?

She almost laughed at the thought.

No, that was impossible.

Friendship with Jennie Kim was complicated enough when they were kids. Now, it was practically a suicide mission.

There was Jennie's crowd, for one. Jihyo, Tzuyu, and the rest of those self-righteous hypocrites who acted like kindness was something they only had to perform at church. Jisoo couldn't imagine being civil to them. Not now. Not ever.

Nayeon was decent, at least.

But Nayeon hadn't gone to the same school as them when they were kids. She hadn't been there back then. She wasn't part of that mess, which was probably why Jisoo could stand her more than the others.

Then there was Jennie's mother.

Jisoo's stomach clenched at the thought.

Oh, Jennie's mom would not like this at all.

Which made Jisoo wonder what the hell Jennie was even doing.

Was she crazy? Was she trying to be nice now only to turn around and hurt her again later?
