Jisoo was lying on her stomach across Jennie's bed, her feet kicking lazily in the air as she flipped through one of Jennie's books like she was actually reading it.
She was not.
Jennie knew that because every few seconds, Jisoo would make a face at one of the pictures or read a line in a dramatic whisper that sounded nothing like the story was supposed to sound.
Jennie sat beside her with Gaji tucked under one arm, pressing her lips together so she would not laugh too loudly. Her mother had already come in twice to tell them to keep their voices down, and the second time, she had given them that look that meant there would not be a third warning.
Jisoo turned a page with great seriousness, then gasped.
Jennie looked over. "What?"
Jisoo pointed at the book. "This prince is useless."
Jennie snorted before she could stop herself.
Jisoo looked pleased. "See? You agree."
"I don't even know what part you're reading."
"That doesn't matter. I can tell by his face."
Jennie laughed again, softer this time, burying part of her smile against Gaji's head to muffle the sound.
That was the thing about Jisoo. She could make Jennie laugh without even trying. Sometimes it only took a face, or one of her strange opinions, or the way she said something with complete confidence even when it made no sense at all.
Jisoo had always been like that. Bright and ridiculous and impossible not to look at.
Then, suddenly, Jisoo went quiet.
The change was so quick that Jennie noticed right away.
Jisoo stopped flipping through the book. Her fingers stayed pressed against the page, but her eyes were not on the words anymore.
"Jendeuk."
Jennie wrinkled her nose. "What?"
"I have to tell you something."
There was something in her voice that made Jennie sit up a little straighter.
"Is it a secret?"
Jisoo nodded, very seriously.
Jennie's curiosity sparked at once. She shifted closer on the bed, still holding Gaji against her chest. "What is it?"
Jisoo opened her mouth, then closed it again.
Her face turned pink.
Jennie blinked. Then she grinned. "Why are you blushing?"
"I'm not."
"You are."
"I'm not!"
"You're so red."
Jisoo made a frustrated sound and shoved her face into the open book. "Forget it."
Jennie laughed under her breath and reached over, tugging gently at the edge of the book. "No, tell me."
"No."
"Please?"
Jisoo peeked at her over the pages, suspicious and embarrassed.
Jennie leaned closer, smiling in the way she knew usually worked on her. "Tell me, Chu."
