Monday morning was louder than Jennie wanted it to be.
Students moved through the hallway in clusters, laughing, talking and slamming locker doors. Jennie stood at her own locker, trying to focus on getting the books she needed for first period.
She was doing a good job of pretending everything was normal, maybe because she was so used to it.
Then she heard the familiar tap of crutches.
Jennie didn't look right away because she already knew who it was.
Jisoo arrived beside her a moment later, slightly out of breath but trying very hard not to look like it. Her hair was tied back loosely, and her face had that half-annoyed, half-bored expression she wore whenever the school week started.
They both glanced at each other and for a second, neither of them said anything.
Then Jisoo opened her locker and muttered, "Good morning."
Jennie closed her locker and leaned lightly against it, trying to look casual.
"I bought it." she told her, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible.
Jisoo froze, then she slowly turned to look at her.
"You're kidding, right?"
Jennie smirked. "Oh, no. I'm not."
Jisoo stared at her.
"I bought the Greek God one you told me about."
For a moment, Jisoo's mouth actually fell open and Jennie had to bite back another smile.
"Seriously?"
"Seriously."
"You bought a gaming laptop over the weekend?"
"Yes."
"Because I told you to?"
Jennie's face felt warm, but she forced her expression to stay neutral.
"Because I wanted one."
Jisoo looked at her like she had grown another head.
"You are crazy, Jennie Kim."
Jennie smiled before she could stop herself.
"Maybe."
Jisoo shook her head, but there was something bright in her expression now. Something close to delight.
"I guess rich people can make good tech decisions after all."
Jennie rolled her eyes. "Whatever."
"You better not install anything without asking me."
"You know I'm not helpless."
"No, but...well never mind."
Before Jennie could reply, Lisa appeared behind Jisoo and tapped her lightly on the back.
"Hey, Jisoo! Hey, Jennie! Good morning!"
Jennie straightened almost immediately.
Jisoo looked at Lisa, then back at Jennie, like she had also remembered they were standing in the middle of a hallway with actual people around them.
"I gotta get to class," Jisoo said, closing her locker.
Lisa hooked an arm carefully around Jisoo's shoulders, mindful of her balance. "Me too. Let's walk together."
Jisoo rolled her eyes, but she didn't shake Lisa off.
As Lisa began steering her away, Jisoo looked back.
