Jenny smiled at Mac and hefted another box into the side storage compartment of the RV hooked to their truck. "That's the last one!" she crowed in excitement, slamming the lid on the compartment closed and standing back. "Ready to head out in the morning?"

"Ready as I'll ever be," was Mac's response. She felt his warmth envelope her from behind as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head of silky, black hair. "The real question is whether Rocky is ready to leave or not."

Jenny glanced down at their dog, a little blue merle Australian Shepherd with striking, cerulean eyes. He sat there watching them, small stub tail waggling in the dirt at her feet.

They may not have wanted children, but as it turned out, both Mac and Jenny were okay with a dog, and were both extremely smitten with Rocky. They'd gone back and forth for months trying to settle on a breed, but after much research, they'd finally chosen an Australian Shepherd like Hank, Arthur and Tori's dog. Well, sort of their dog. Hank was technically still Jackson's dog, but as Jackson was never around anymore, Hank tended to spend his days with Arthur and Tori and the kids.

In fact, Jackson was part of the reason for Mac and Jenny's permanent departure from the ranch. Both of them knew Jackson would never come home for more than a few days at a time unless they made themselves scarce, and as soon as Jenny learned there were folk who lived out of an RV, working odd jobs to get by while exploring the country, she'd been highly interested in the lifestyle and had made plans with Mac to make such a life their reality.

Modern life with Mac had taken some adjusting though, especially as she healed from the gunshot to her abdomen and the aftermath of the brain bleed. For a while, Jenny had helped Tori with the kids and taken up other, more domestic jobs such as cooking for Mac and doing laundry and cleaning the little apartment above the barn they'd been living in, but that was only because she liked staying busy and farm chores were still too much for her.

These days, however, she found herself itching for more action. As soon as her doctors cleared her, she was back in the saddle of a horse, helping Mac and Arthur with work around the ranch. By then, Wyatt and June were self-sufficient enough that Tori could handle all four children by herself for a few hours (although now that the twins were around two years old, Wyatt was proving to be just as big a handful as his father and older sister sometimes).

And so, with her on the mend, she and Mac took what little money they had and bought the used RV currently hooked to the truck. It was run-down and just a little bit shabby in places, but it was their ticket to freedom, and Jenny couldn't have been more excited about it.

First, they'd both managed to land jobs with an outfitter as elk hunting guides out in Idaho this fall. After that, they would be moving to Arizona for the rest of the winter to work as hired hands on a cattle ranch before finally moving up to Glacier National Park in Montana for the following summer to work as park hosts. Beyond that, who knew what the future held?
