Temperature is dropping, temperature is dropping

I'm not sure if I can see this ever stopping

Shaking hands with the dark parts of my thoughts

-----

Luke threw the small red lighter, it glided through the thin, frosty air. His cerulean eyes watching it drop back into his hand. His right thumb stroked the wheel of the red disposable lighter, creating a small flash of sparks in the velvet, cloudy night sky while his off hand protected the fragile flickering flame. He comfortably positioned himself on the rooftop of his parents house. His blue orbs shooting from is abused wrists, covered in blisters and burn marks that traveled up both arms to the small orange flame that held so much power.

The blonde sixteen year old, held the lighter underneath his wrist, slightly hissing at the familiar feeling before letting the flame burn into his flesh, small drops of blood forming from the blister before dropping onto the titled roof. Luke watched so closely at his fragile yet destroyed skin. He loved watching how easy the skin torn and covered in blossoming scarlet reds and pretty shades of purple. It was cruel yet beautiful.

"Hey stop!" A loud shout echoed, catching Luke of guard causing him to drop the lighter, watching it fall off the rooftop. His eyes widened in fear, not so much that someone caught him but that he had dropped his lighter. He brought his head up, tilting it to the side slightly to see his neighbour. He had never seen any of his neighbours before, he had just guessed it was an old man waiting for death. Yet here a young teenage boy was, his hair seemed an unnatural shade but he couldn't quite tell from the lack of light. His skin was pasty white, almost glowing in the darkness of the sky, he could hardly take in any of the boys features but Luke found a soft smile tugging at his lips because of the beautiful boy.

The blonde began to panic when he noticed the boy was crawling out his window and onto his roof. The tops of their houses were practically connected, Luke could easily jump across. He was happy that he could see more of the neighbour intrigued to see all his little features yet it was still so dark. Luke had managed to see that the boy had a small piercing above her beryl eyes that had such a soft aura, he also had soft pastel pink lips. From what Luke could see in the night sky, he was wearing worn out track pants and a black tee that hung of his shoulders giving him full view of the boys collarbones. Luke's thoughts were cut off by a loud huff, he quickly everted his eyes away from the neighbour bringing them down to his lap.

"What the fuck are you doing?" The neighbour boy questioned, concern rising with every word.

"What?" Luke replied, barely a whisper.

"Why are you doing that to your skin!?" the neighbour yelped, eyes gazed upon the wrists of the younger boy. Luke self-consciously tried to hide the burnt skin but immediately failed. Luke knew exactly why he did it, but he didn't want to share that with some random.

The younger boy wasn't good with social speaking, he didn't have any friends and he didn't know how to make them. But he had to change the topic in anyway possible. So he said the first thing that came to mind.

"I'm Luke."

"Huh?" the pale boy replied, confused eyes widened at his neighbour.

"Luke, my name, it's Luke."

"Oh.." the neighbour paused, timidly biting on his lip. "I'm Michael" he replied. Michael should've figured that his new, beautiful, blonde neighbour wouldn't just tell him why he was burning his wrists. Michael watched as the blondes head shot up from his lap, sapphire meeting emerald. Michael shot the boy a concerned smile, he had only recently moved in a week ago. Michael had always lived in the same town, so he didn't have to abandon any of his friends - even though he hardly has any real ones. His old house was just falling apart and his father wanted a change. In the long tiring week of unpacking boxes, Michael had spent his spare time spying on the blonde next door... Not trying to be creepy, he was just so intrigued with the teenager. Although seeing his neighbour, now known as Luke, burning his flesh like that hurt Michael, he wasn't sure why? Michael hardly had any emotions but it hit him hard. "A-are you ok?" The coloured haired boy asked, brushing his finger tips through his freshly dyed red hair.

"I-uh- yeah-I guess?" Luke murmured, still annoyed that he had dropped his lighter in the overgrown grass.

Michael stood to his feet, not quite sure what was possessing him to go over to Luke's roof but he had to check if his wrists were physically ok. Knowing it'd probably terrify Luke, Michael took that chance. "What are you doing?" Luke asked, watching as Michael went to the edge of his roof before slightly jumping onto his neighbours. Stumbling in the process he had managed to quickly find balance. Luke scooted back towards his window that connected to the top of his roof. "Hey, wait" Michael pleaded. Luke's chest was heaving in and out, heavy worrying breathes filling his lungs. "I-I just wanna check" Michael whispered oh so calmly. A soothing tone to Luke.

"I don't even know you" Luke replied, watching as the bright red haired boy trotted towards him, trying not to fall of the tiled roof.

"Thats the point" Michael replied softly, bending down to sit next to the blonde who was practically trembling. "You don't know me, and I don't know you.. It makes is easier to trust someone who you know can't tell anyone."

Luke stared at his neighbour, his eyes were such a pretty colour, covered with different shades of soft green and slashes of hazelnut brown. His eyes were hooded with long lashes and Luke didn't know that eyes could be so beautiful.

The words traveled through Luke mind, Michael made sense in a way. So Luke just breathed out an "oh" before hesitantly bringing out his freshly burnt wrist. Michael's eyes widened in shock, noticing so many- to many burns on Luke's pretty pale skin. He checked to see if it was obsessive bleeding but everything seemed to be ok, he'd defiantly needed to put disinfectant on them though.

"Why are you doing this?" Luke asked, tugging his hands back in the process.

"Well i'm your neighbour and I wasn't just going to let you burn your skin, Luke."

"Why not? You don't know anything about me. I could be a terrible person for all you know." Luke stated, leaning on the back of his palms as his eyes drifted towards the not so starry night sky, dark clouds covering the glimmering stars and bright moon.

"You could be, but you could always be an amazing person and I don't think you deserve any of this" Michael simply shrugged, his eyes not leaving Luke's scar covered skin. It was a strange connection that he felt.

Not many friendships blossomed this way but Luke nor Michael seemed to mind.
