Meng had excused herself from her cousins to retire early right after dinner. The events of the day starting this morning had somewhat drained her out that she felt she needed some rest. Although she does not feel out of place as she knows her cousins will never allow it, she thinks that joining the group is not a must and, that they would best enjoy their reunion without her presence to be considered.

She then opened her planner and reviewed what she had jotted down as "things to do" for the week. She also decided to rank according to her priorities the companies and offices her cousins had recommended. She had already emailed her resume to a couple of these companies yesterday and was actually planning to send more today but, due to what happened this morning she had totally forgotten doing this.

Thinking over, she wondered what would have been her feeling and where would she be by now if she graduated with the course she wanted so much to take.

Since high school, she finds enjoyment in sketching. This hobby and reading were her therapies then for boredom, depression or annoyance. In short, sketching was once one of her stress reliever. Hence, she then wanted to take Fine Arts in college but as faith would have it, her father meet an accident that limited his mobility for life and lost his job.

No school offered Fine Arts course in their place. Pursuing it would mean studying in another city or in Manila where there are Universities that offered this course. Her parents could not afford it in their present situation, so, she was constrained to take Accounting with the purpose of easily landing a job in order to help her family. She knows that accounting functions is a must in record keeping activities of any business, associations or institution. Somewhat disillusioned for having not enrolled in her preferred course, she lost interest in sketching and had turned to spending her idle time in reading.

Unlike other girls her age, she is not so interested in boys. Although she'd had some crushes in high school and college, these has not progressed to something serious. The longest she'd had was for a childhood classmate who was always kind to her and was a defender from school bullies in their elementary grades. She lost contact with him however, when his family moved to another place after their graduation from high school.

A couple of classmates in college had caught her attention initially due to their intellectual performance but her feelings never flourished. Arrogance appalls her most and this is the common cause of her abrupt loss of interest on her crushes. There were also several attempts by some schoolmates to be close to her but, Meng usually becomes uncomfortable in a guy's company once she feels that the intention is more than friendship. She would commonly avoid the guy and, at times would even resort to foolish actions to discourage him, to the amusement of her closest friends Lolly and Brian. One such foolishness was, when she agreed to an invitation of a persistent guy but, before going out with him she ate green leafy veggies and intentionally let pieces of these stuck in between her teeth. When the guy showed up she smiled broadly displaying her nicely decorated teeth to her stupefied date.

In short, Meng is a certified NBSB (no boyfriend since birth). But, this neither bothered nor affected her despite the teasing and prodding of her friends.
