The peace lasted exactly four days.

Four days where nobody got investigated.
Nobody got hospitalized.
Nobody hired attorneys.
Nobody attended hearings.
Nobody had emotional breakdowns in practice rooms.
Nobody got called into the dean's office.
Four days where life felt surprisingly normal.
Four days where Abigail focused on music.
Emma focused on resting.
Megan focused on basketball.
Ashley focused on painting.
And everyone collectively enjoyed the fact that Professor Shields was no longer controlling any part of their lives.
It was glorious.
Peaceful.
Healthy.
Which was precisely why Ashley ruined it.
It started at breakfast.
Like most disasters did.
The penthouse kitchen was flooded with morning sunlight.
The city sparkled beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Coffee brewed.
Pancakes cooked.
Music played softly from a speaker somewhere in the living room.
Emma sat at the island scrolling through emails from work.
Abigail was writing lyrics in a notebook while occasionally rubbing her growing stomach.
Megan was halfway awake and drinking coffee like it was life support.
Ashley was suspiciously quiet.
A fact nobody noticed immediately.
Because Ashley being quiet was so unusual that nobody's brain registered it as a warning sign.
Then—
THUMP.
A giant three-ring binder landed on the kitchen island.
Hard.
The sound echoed through the penthouse.
Everyone looked up.
Nobody spoke.
Ashley smiled.
A dangerous smile.
The kind that usually resulted in chaos.
"What is that?" Emma asked cautiously.
Ashley sat down proudly.
"A wedding binder."
Silence.
Complete silence.
Abigail blinked.
Emma blinked.
Megan slowly lowered her coffee.
"No."
Ashley pointed.
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
