"Absolutely not."
Emma stood in the middle of the penthouse staring at the mountain of decorations.
"Ashley."
"What?"
"This is a baby shower."
Ashley nodded.
"I know."
Emma pointed toward the boxes.
There were dozens.
Actual dozens.
Pink balloons.
Pink flowers.
Pink ribbons.
Pink table decorations.
Pink gift bags.
Pink everything.
It looked like a bubblegum factory had exploded.
Emma blinked.
"This looks like we're hosting a small nation."
Ashley looked proud.
"Thank you."
"That wasn't a compliment."
The morning of the shower felt different.
Not stressful.
Not chaotic.
Exciting.
The penthouse had been transformed.
Every room felt warm.
Welcoming.
Beautiful.
The city skyline stretched behind the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Sunlight poured into the space.
Music played softly through speakers.
The entire place felt alive.
Abigail stood quietly near one of the windows before everyone arrived.
Looking out over the city.
One hand resting on her stomach.
The other wrapped around a cup of tea.
The baby had started moving more lately.
Tiny kicks.
Tiny reminders.
Tiny moments that still felt unbelievable.
Emma walked up behind her.
Wrapping her arms around her waist.
Their favorite position.
The one they always seemed to end up in.
Neither spoke immediately.
They didn't need to.
Finally Emma rested her chin on Abigail's shoulder.
"Nervous?"
Abigail smiled.
"A little."
Emma kissed her cheek.
"You'll be okay."
Abigail nodded.
The truth was she wasn't nervous about the party.
