You piece of junk, you worthless piece of junk. you deserve nothing. your a waste of space. his hand hit the side of my face knocking me to the floor. blood was poring out of my lip. I was kicked several times In the abdomen, but no tears ran.

I woke up, sweat was pouring off me. The nightmare I usually got coming back into my mind. I look at the clock 6:56 in the morning. ugh! I mentally groaned. After laying in bed for 5 more minutes I got up. I wasn't getting anymore shut eye. I grab my clothes from yesterday ; a pair of jeans and a stained navy blue 3/4 sleeve shirt. I pulled my hair back into a pony tail like I normally do. I slip on my old worn out flip flops despite the winter weather, I had no other shoes. I slowly walked down the stairs. I look down the hall both ways checking for Ms. Mary before I slip into the kitchen and start boiling some water to make oatmeal. after dividing up the oatmeal I set each paper bowl 14 in total on a tray I grab 14 spoons and 14 napkins and head back up the stairs. I walked into the little girls room and woke them each up.

"eat up. don't let Ms. Mary see the bowls or the spoons put them under your beds ill get them tonight"

I handed each girl their bowl and walked back out the door. I went to the nursery next where I gave the children over 2 their oatmeal. that left 2 bowls left. one for me and one for Jessa. I helped tommy he had turned 2 about 3 months ago and he wasn't very handy with a spoon. I grabbed the empty dishes, setting them on my tray and ran to the back door where the big metal garbage can was. I threw the bowls into the can along with the napkins and the plastic spoons. by the time Jessa and I got to eat it was already 7: 33 our oatmeal was lumpy and cold but it was all we would get for the day.

I talked to Jessa for a little bit, before Ms. Mary called us down. we both stepped into her office. I closed my eyes and let my head fall. who knew what Ms. Mary wanted. she stood up grabbing the wooden spoon off her desk and walked towards us. "which one of you brats made the kids breakfast" I gulped nervously. "do I have to repeat myself? Katie" I held my head up. "was it you Katie? or was it you Jessa?" I shot Jessa a look. her face was scared. I was scared too but after dealing with this for about 4 years you get used to it. I did it" I responded quietly "what'd you say" she comes over to me waving the wooden spoon around. I straighten up and look into her eyes. I did it" I thought so" she shooed Jessa out of the room. I turned to the wall preparing myself for the wooden spoon on my bare back. she lifted up my shirt and started hitting my bare back. I winced in pain this happened about once a week. I racked my mind for how she could've found out. the little girls now how to hide it and I left my door open a crack I would've heard yelling if she caught one of the girls with their bowl. then it hit me just like that I left the oatmeal on the counter. the spoon hit me more. I was shooed out after I was hit 13 times . I climbed the stairs tears spilling over. As soon as I closed the door I fell to the floor.

**

"thanks"

"no problem Katie. do you get hit a lot?" Jessa asks

"yeah"

"sorry"

"its fine" I respond

"GET THE DOOR" Ms. Mary calls from somewhere downstairs. I run down the stairs wiping the tears off my face and blinked a few times trying to get rid of my puffy eyes.

I looked out the peep hole, I counted a total of 4 people standing on the front stoop. the one in the front knocked on the door again, and I opened it up.

"hello is this Ms. Mary's home for girls" the tall one with brown hair and quiff asked. I nodded my head. I let them in and led them to Ms. Mary's office. I knocked on the door before a sharp "come in" was said. I opened the door and turned around heading towards the nursery. Tommy was like my baby. I have been there since the day he showed up in a cardboard box on the front stoop. I was only 13 then. When I was 14 tommy was 1 and he got picked up by a young lady who really didn't know what she was doing. I didn't know what was going to happen to tommy or I. I cried that whole week after Tommy left. My happiest day was when tommy came back. I sneaked out of my room and went into the nursery to hold him and sing him to sleep. I now sang him to sleep on a regular basis.
