Chapter 9

ERIC POV

Chelsea had been on life support for a few weeks now she couldn't operate without the life support yet I had taken Max's place temporarily while he sat by her side I don't know why she did it she seemed so happy yet there's something she knows that the rest of us don't I was doing Max's paperwork when the door  opened

"YOU EVER HEARD OF FUCKING KNOCKING" I snapped I was in a bad mood the woman I secretly cared about was hanging on to life by a thread and there was nothing I could do

"Sorry Max sent me he wants you down at the infirmary" the guy explains I sighed and made my way to the infirmary

"Chelsea Peterson" I say to the person at the desk

"Room 20" she replies I walk down a hall when I reach her room I knock and wait for an answer

"Come in" Max shouts from the other side I walk in and see Chelsea hooked up to various machines

"You asked for me" I state he nods Max looked tired and worn out he had bags under his eyes and was a shadow of his former self

"How are things going" he asks

"Usual except everyone's sad about Chelsea, initiation has continued but if Chelsea wakes up she can finish initiation separately" I answer he nods

"It's a very big if she suffered blows to the head and we don't know how long she was down there" he sighs I put my hand on his shoulder and squeezed it slightly as reassurance he was one of my best friends I hated seeing him so distant

"She'll make it she's strong trust me" I say but I was more trying to convince myself I wasn't sure she would make it no one has ever lived after falling in the chasm she was lucky to even be breathing suddenly her heart monitor starts beeping I run to the door

"NURSE" they come running in we get told to leave I can see how on edge Max is

"It might be nothing" I tell him he just hums a few minutes later Jeanine walks in me and Max stand up

"Why are you here Jeanine" I ask

"I'm here to switch the life support off its up to Chelsea now" she explains

"YOU ARE NOT SWITCHING HER LIFE SUPPORT OFF" Max snaps

"I'm sorry Max but it's how it works" she replies calmly

"YOU ARE NOT TAKING AWAY MY DAUGHTER I ALREADY LOST MY WIFE" he shouts

"Yes and I'm really sorry but it's just the way it has to be" she says before she starts walking to Chelsea's room I hold my breath and hope she can operate without the life support we watch as she presses a few buttons

"Life support is off" one of the nurses say Jeanine nods we watch the heart monitor what feels like hours is only seconds

"I'm sorry Max" Jeanine says it looks like all the life just drained from him I thought she could do it I thought she would live I look at her she still looks beautiful even if she's been laying there for forever

"Chelsea if you can hear me please wake up fight for life I know you can please I'm lost without you" Max pleads a tear escaping, everyone was stood round solemnly beep...beep...beep we all looked up so fast I think we got whiplash "Chelsea come on wake up just open your eyes for me" Max said full of hope slowly her  eyes opened revealing those beautiful green eyes I fell for

"Hey dad" she croaked "Eric"

"How you doing kiddo you scared us all" I joked trying to lighten the mood even though I was supposed to be cruel ruthless sadistic Eric I'm not heartless

"I'm alive that's all I'm gonna say" she smiled flashing her pearly white teeth

"Anyway I've got to get back to work" I say turning round

"Can you not tell anyone about me being conscious yet please" she ask I turn round

"You want to surprise everyone" I ask raising an eyebrow

"Hell yea" she says I nod

"I can act and lie so sure thing you owe me though" I say she chuckles

"Bye Eric have find doing boring shit" she says

"CHELSEA PETERSON LANGUAGE" Max shouts she rolls her eyes

"Sorry dad" she sighs soon a nurse walks in with a clipboard

"Chelsea your showing good progress and you can leave today I hope you know you where extremely lucky" the nurse says

"So I've been told" she rolls her eyes getting up and going to the bathroom to get changed

"Told you" I say before walking out and turning emotionless again time for a bit of acting

CHELSEA POV

I walked in the bathroom my hair was all matted my make up was a mess I was a mess I combed my hair and braided it I did my make up and got changed into a tank top and jeans I walked out and saw my dad waiting

"Ready to go" he asks

"Yea" I reply he nods and we walk down a route where no one will see me I want it to be a surprise for everyone I am going to do it at dinner I had something to eat before we went a secret route to the back of the dinning hall where you go up onto the balcony Eric and the rest of the leaders where there they all hugged me before making their way up I heard it all go quiet and listened

"Today at 11:43am Chelsea's life support was switched off" I heard a few gasps "Unfortunately she didn't make it" they lied I heard a few cries most likely from friends and cousins "TO THE AFTERLIFE LADIES, GENTLEMEN AND CHILDREN OF DAUNTLESS HERE IS OUR MUCH LOVED CHELSEA PETERSON ALIVE AND WELL" I ran up and everyone was cheering I was well known in dauntless I looked around and spotted my friends I winked at them they just laughed and shook their head I was glad I lived I was glad I fought for my life I had never realised how much I was lived till now it felt good.

~3 hours later~

"Eric where are you taking me" I asked for the millionth time he had dragged me off and wasn't telling me where we were going he soon stopped we were at his apartment

"Right I want answers now why did you jump" he demands

"I can't tell you" I say looking at the floor

"You can trust me Chelsea" he says

"I know and I would tell you but I've been threatened not to" I answer still looking at the floor

"Look at me Chelsea" Eric says I slowly look at him "nothing will happen to you if you tell me I will protect you I promise" he reassured me I take a deep breath for some reason I trusted Eric he made me feel safe so here goes

"It was in my 15th birthday massive party in the pit you probably heard about it anyway, Ryan he was a good friend of mine ever since we were three but something changed in him that day it was about midnight when he approached me he tried to kiss me and I pushed him away he got angry and grabbed me by the wrist dragging me off to a dark hall that no one uses...he...shoved me against the wall and threatened me with a knife he started kissing me...he didn't stop and he raped me at knife point" I told him Eric looked shocked he walked over to me I shoved him away no wanting pity "I don't want your pity Eric" I explained looking anywhere but him he grabbed my chin and made me look at him

"I'm not going to pity you...I don't know what to say Chelsea your so brave you never told anyone even though I can see it was killing you I understand now why you act the way you do and I swear Ryan will never touch you like that ever again or I will personally break every bone in his body" he says I smile it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders but one question was circling my mind

"Why do you care so much" I ask
