Thanos' Daughter

Chapter 20

Thor's jaw was hanging open and he stared in astonishment at my wings. I moved them so they rested comfortably behind my back and crossed my arms.

Thor shook his head, but didn't stop staring.

I heard a faint growl off to my right. Glancing at Loki showed that he was indeed growling quietly at his former brother as the man continued to ogle my wings.

"Don't you dare," Loki whispered, but I wasn't sure if he was talking to Thor or me.

"But, how? Who? What are you?" Thor didn't appear to have heard Loki's comment.

I tilted my head to the side. "Use full sentences princey. My king said that intelligence is not your strong suit, but I had no idea it would be this bad. What would your father say? How can Odin expect his son to succeed the throne if the boy cannot coherently communicate with a woman?"

Loki snickered.

My quip at Thor succeeded in drawing him from his stupor. He straightened to his full height and stared at me. "Brother, since when did you align yourself with the Valkyrie? And why would the Valkyrie want to take over the Earth? You, Chooser of the Slain, are supposed to be the protectors of dead warriors, not killers yourselves."

"I'm not aligned with the Valkyrie-," Loki started.

I thought all the Valkyries were extinct. " Thor interrupted.

I was guessing that he wasn't expecting answers to any of these questions. Rather, I thought he just didn't realize that he was speaking aloud rather than keeping his thoughts to himself.

"Well then I guess it's a good thing I'm not a Valkyrie, or at least, not a full-blooded one." I smirked.

I liked the way a smirk felt. I suddenly understood why Loki did it so often. There is a certain sense of power that comes with the curl of your lips.

"Who are you? What are you doing with my brother?" Thor was on guard now.

"As I told you before, I'm Loki's master while he's on Earth."

"Why would you wish to work with my brother?" Thor shouted.

"I'm not working with him, I'm controlling him. He works for me." I huffed. Was is really so surprising to every damn male I came across that I could be in charge of another man? I thought only humans were the chauvinistic pigs. Apparently Asgardians didn't have equality either.

Loki raised an eyebrow at me. I wasn't sure if it was because he was reading my mind, or he didn't appreciate being called my underling.

"Well it is true. My king put me in charge of you." I shrugged, gesturing vaguely with my sword.

"But what do you hope to accomplish by conquering Earth? I see what Loki gets out of the arrangement, but I do not understand what you would gain by helping him," Thor moved closer to me.

Loki took a step towards Thor. "Don't touch her."

This time, Thor heard him. "Brother, has this woman corrupted your mind? Is she the one that has dangled kingship in front of you? If so, I shall stop her and save you from her false promises."

Loki started to say something, but I held up a hand. "I can take care of myself, thank you anyway Loki. As for you," I rounded on Thor. "The king I serve has promised Loki the throne of Earth once it is conquered. I did not make any deals with him, nor have I ever been anything but honest with him." I hesitated for a beat as I realized I took it too far.

I had lied in front of the God of Lies. Loki would be able to tell that I had lied to Thor and then he would start digging around for what I'd hidden. I didn't want him to find out my secret. It would change the way he treated me. I liked the way he treated me now and I didn't want it to change. I had no clue what I was supposed to do if Loki found out Thanos was my dear old dad.

Wow, wow is all I can say. I've been missing the simpler days of Marvel lately and suddenly remembered that I had started this story. I have to say I am so sorry for abandoning it for years. I started college right as this was taking off, and unfortunately I forgot to manage both effective. It's not an excuse, but it is my reason. 

With the release of the Loki TV show, I am working on figuring exactly how my dear Valkyrie fits into this addition. I will continue to work on this, because I do have plans for how to end it. My writing style has likely changed over the years, but I hope that I can bring this back to something that you all will be able to enjoy again.
