A muscular man wearing the most ridiculous spandex outfit dove in front of the old man and blocked the energy with a red, white, and blue shield.
I guessed he was one of the Avengers that Barton had told me about, but I couldn't tell which one this man was.
I gave up trying to figure out the man's identity when I heard a crashing noise behind me followed by a "damnnit."
I whipped around to find the same man I'd danced with earlier staggering towards me from the other end of the alley.
"Word of advice, I don't recommend taking the window exit. It's not as comfy as-. Wait a second, I know you. You're the girl I danced with earlier. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be running away?"
Shit, shit, shit this was really bad. Luckily, my wings were hidden in the shadows which meant that he was unaware that I wasn't a normal human. "I'm hiding from the psycho in the square. He's trying to kill old men."
"Well don't worry about that. I recognize that man fighting the green freak. The man's name is Captain America. He'll capture that crazy fool in no time."
I glanced back to Loki and saw that he was locked in combat with the man called Captain America. I turned back to my former dance partner. "How do you know so much about Captain America?"
"I've got a cousin who lives in America. He's a huge fan of all that superhero stuff. He sends me his old comics occasionally. My favorite was Captain America." Hernando looked down and scuffed his feet on the pavement.
I guess even the attractive humans have their secrets, although I never would have guessed that this attractive human was such a major nerd.
"Interesting. So let me ask you something, Hernando. Why aren't you running in terror from the freak fighting the captain?"
"It's not every day one gets to watch their favorite superhero fighting a villain in real life. I wouldn't miss this if someone paid me to."
"Okay," I nodded distractedly, as I turned back to the fight in time to see Loki knock aside the Captain's shield."I never got the chance to ask if you you're from this area. Do you live far? "
"No I'm not from this area." I knew I was being curt, but I didn't want to deal with ignorant humans who couldn't get that I just wanted to watch the fight and make sure Loki didn't need help.
"Are you staying nearby? I could walk you to your temporary residence if you want. It's not safe for such a beautiful woman such as yourself to be walking the streets at such a dangerous hour. Oh, that had to hurt." Hernando stopped flirting as he caught sight of something beyond me.
We both turned back in time to watch the captain go flying across the park.
Hernando cringed as Captain America landed. "That didn't look too pleasant. Maybe I should go see if there's anyone else around that could help him."
I nodded as he moved past me and started towards the fight. I relaxed.
He turned back to me. "You should probably get out of here. This could get ugly."
I nodded again and started to back away from him.
His eyes widened as I moved and his jaw dropped. I had a sinking feeling I knew exactly what he was looking at.
Glancing up, revealed that the moon was out from behind a cloud and there was a beam of bright light shining on my grey wings. I wanted to curse.
"Woah, what are you? Are you some kind of a mutant? Do you work with Captain America?"
If I hadn't known better I would have thought Hernando's voice held a hint of admiration.
"I resent that," I huffed. "I'm in no way, shape, or form attached to that spandex wearing imbecile or his little organization."
"But if you're not here with S.H.I.E.L.D. then what are you-?" He broke off. "You're working for him aren't you? You're one of that psycho's henchmen."
I sighed. "Technically, he's working for me.""I won't allow you freaks to destroy my precious city." Hernando cried. In the next second, he dove at me with his fists raised.
He tried to punch me, but I kicked him away.
He coughed and scrambled to his feet. "Damn that hurt. What are you, some kind of super strong winged mutant?"
"None of the above," I dove at him from above and threw him into a wall.
He slid down it and there was a dent in the bricks that matched the shape of his torso. He got up once again and this time, I fought to end this pointless battle. He raced at me again, but I zipped up into the air above him. While he looked around for me, I dove back to the ground and punched the base of his neck.
I didn't break any bones in his neck, but I did knock him out. He crumpled instantly and I felt a slight sense of superiority.
I turned back to Loki's battle to find him raising his hands in surrender as a man in a metal suit threatened him with all manner of weapons. Loki was chained up and dragged into a small plane.
The man called Captain America walked over in my direction as the iron man and another redhead escorted Loki into the plane. I sped up into the air and crouched on the ledge of a building, watching the superhero.
After scanning the alleyway where I'd been hiding, Captain America called back to his team that there were no other hostile forces around.
I refrained from chuckling at his lack of observation skills. I wondered how he had managed to become a captain since he was severely lacking in a necessary skill of combat.
The metal death trap took off a few seconds later and I watched it for a second, before remembering that I needed to follow the plane to keep an eye on Loki.
Author's Note: Holy crap guys! It has been such a long time since I've updated. I'm so sorry. The past year was absolutely crazy and I never made it a priority to continue updating.
