Loki groaned.

I realized that I wanted to race over to him and wrap my arms around him. I wanted to protect him from this mammoth of a man who stood over him.

Rather than trying to plead for his life or apologize for whatever he'd done to anger this man, Loki decided to poke the bilgesnipe. He started laughing.

The other man's voice was deep and held a tone of reservation as if he didn't fully trust Loki, not that I blamed him. "Where is the Tesseract?"
"Well I've missed you too," Loki chuckled.

"Do you think I'm in the mood for more of your useless games?" the man hefted his hammer slightly and I tensed.

I wouldn't let this man hurt Loki.

"You should really be thanking me, you know," Loki slowly crawled to his feet. "With the Bifrost gone, how much dark energy did the Allfather have to gather to conjure you here to your precious Earth?" Loki stood tall now, dusting off his coat.

The blonde man snarled and hauled Loki to his feet. His massive hand squeezed the back of Loki's neck and I flinched seeing Loki's fragile neck in the man's hand. It made Loki look almost weak, but I never would have told him. I couldn't risk damaging the godling's precious self esteem, not to mention his ego.

The large man started into Loki's angry eyes with a look that showed sadness and pain. Lots of pain. It actually pained this man to see Loki. "I thought you were dead," the giant said.

"Did you mourn my loss?" Loki's voice was as bland as I'd ever heard. Not a hint of his former anger showed.

It both amazed and terrified me that a person like Loki could be so powerful and so unstable. I was grateful he was on my father's side. Something told me Loki would be one Hel of an enemy.

The blonde man looked surprised at Loki's question. "Of course we did. We all mourned. Our father-"

Loki cut him off, raising a finger in the air. "Your father, not mine."

The man I now knew to be Thor shoved Loki away in disgust and I thought disappointment. I realized that he'd thought Loki would have forgiven their father for lying to the God of Lies.

Thor clearly did not know Loki as well as he thought he did.

"He did tell you about my true parentage, no?" Loki's quiet voice drew my attention. He looked so vulnerable, as if even the sight of Thor might call back old memories that would shatter the man I inexplicably cared about. Yet, he was trying to hide that vulnerability. I could see in his stance and the purposeful way he took each step that he was trying to act indifferent.

It wasn't working and Thor could see that too.

"We were raised together, we played with each other, we fought side by side. Does this mean nothing to you? Are the memories really that easy to forget?" Thor called after Loki.

Author's Note:

Hey Everyone,

I'm so sorry it's been a while since I've updated. I was on a trip for three weeks and when I got back I had to dive right back into the chaos of life. I wanted to get another chapter out quickly, which is why this one is so short. It will probably be a while until I'll e able to update again because my life is pretty hectic right now. I am hoping to work on a few chapters over the next few weeks and upload them soon. Thanks for sticking with me through all the breaks I've taken. It really means a lot to know that you are interested in reading what I am writing.

Ciao all,

Jinx
