Ariel woke up slowly, feeling that something was wrong. She felt like she was suffocating. Like she couldn't breathe. As she woke up slowly and focused on her surroundings, she felt a familiar clawing inside of her that snapped her eye open. She looked around with her heartbeat accelerating. Her wolf was awake, out of hi eating and sh was trying to say something. They couldn't properly communicate but she could feel the nudges that the wolf was trying I I've and knew she would was telling her to focus.
So she didn't, she turned to focus on her surroundings. She was in her room, on her bed. She looked to eh side and saw that Axel was asleep beside her. Seeing Axel confused her. Why was he in her room?
Then she remembered. He was supposed to be keeping an eye on her pup. She rapidly looked around for him and saw him lying on the other side of Axel's legs.
"Axel!" she yelled angrily and quickly went to her son, picking him up. He had obviously fallen off Axel's lap without the man noticing it. As soon as she touched him, she hissed. His skin was burning hot and he was whimpering. "Axel, dammit, wake up." She snapped to the man, shoving his legs off the bed. His eyes snapped open and met hers. And widened in fear.
"You were supposed to keep an eye on him." She snapped at him as she took off Zane's shirt and his body suit, leaving him in his womper and diaper. As she did that, she mind-linked River.
Wake up. She gave an alpha order. There was no way he could ignore it.
Alpha. He said in surprise.
Zane is burning up. She said hurriedly.
I'll be right there. He replied.
Axel stood behind her, fear in his eyes. Fear not just of her rage, whenever she did unleash it on him but also for his nephew. He was scare that something would happen to him. He would never forgive himself if it did. His brother and sister in-law wouldn't forgive him. And he knew Ariel would die. As much as he would like to tell himself she chose to live because of the pack or because of him, he knew he would only be lying o himself. She lived because of her son. And if something happened to her son, she would kill herself.
"Out." She snapped when she sensed his presence move closer.
"Ari..."
"Out." This time it was an order. He had no choice but to obey. He gave Zane a concerned look and left the suite. There was nothing he could do for now.
She felt her wolf pull away again now that she was taking care of the issue. She gently kissed his hand.
"Alpha?" River called for her as soon as he entered her suite.
"In the room." She called back and heard him rush to where she was holding her son.
"Fever is higher than I expected." He muttered and closed his eyes to focus on his heartbeat and then pulled out a thermometer. "Back up. Give me space to work."
His tone wasn't commanding but he was telling her what to do. When in a medical emergency, the doctor outranked the alpha. Not really, the alpha could give a command and the doctor would have to follow but it was an age old respect given to the doctors.
"Has he been coughing or sneezing?"
"No. He was just being clingy, I didn't think he would get sick." She said as she paced and River looked over the pup. She was agitated and worried as River took his sweet time giving the check-up. "River." She snapped.
"I don't see a sore throat and he is showing no signs of a flu. It could be the stomach. Put a wet towel on his forehead. I will be right back." He told her and left the room. Axel was pacing outside in the hallway, waiting for someone to tell him how his nephew was.
