"Well I'm still glad you came Kave!" I said, leaning on him. "Would've been so boring without you!" I cooed. He let out a disgruntled noise, but didn't push me off. Marxyn started the car and started driving. I can't believe that woman is alive... That woman? No, my great great grandmother... She's like one-hundred and forty-seven... Could I live that long? Probably... Though I guess I should've guess she was alive. Mom looks twenty at forty-six and Manny, my grandfather, only just retired ice skating two years ago. And not because he couldn't do it, but because his wife couldn't. He also looks forty at ninety and moves like he's twenty. Maybe that's cause he's healthy? I don't know... I let out an audible sigh and suddenly something... something licked. My. Face. Before I could stop myself I was as solid as ice. I didn't turn my head, I couldn't. "Kaveton... Please tell me that's not what I think it is..." I muttered. Kave didn't say anything but I know he heard me because he stiffened. "Kave.. I'm gonna kill you. Get. It.". "Okay Okay! Hold on big baby." He grumbled, moving his dog, I think it was named James? "How long has it been here..." I asked, moving away. "Literally the whole time." He said. The Whole Time!? Was I too tunnel vision to notice he brought his stupid dog!? "Maryxn pull over!" I said, unbuckling. "You're being dramatic.". "Shut up Kave!"
After a seat change and renting a van because no matter how much I am terrified of and hate dogs, I'm not gonna make Kave leave his dog somewhere. So Jake, or whatever its name was, now gets the back row of the van to himself. "Pink.". "Piss off." I grumbled. "Ugh come on! I didn't think you'd mind, let alone be so terrified you freeze up!" Kave explained but I wasn't listening. "You're not gonna ignore me for long, you can't." He said smugly. Sad part is I can't ignore him. Having a crush on someone makes them hard to ignore. I give myself twenty minutes before I cave in and talk to him. "Alright chill with the tension." Coffee huffed. "We still have seven hours of driving to go, no one has time for you guys lovers quarrel." She muttered. "It's not a lovers quarrel!" Kave yelled. "Argue with the wall." She responded. "Going to rent the van really through us of time..." Marxyn muttered. It had gotten a little dark. The sellsman was dragging the process of buying the van on and on. I wanna keep driving but everyone else is probably tried. It's not fair to continue dragging them around just because I wanna keep going. "Let's stop at a hotel... We should get some type of rest." I said and Marxyn nodded. "I think there's a hotel around here." Coffee said pulling out her phone for directions, "Probably not 5 stars though.". "Anywhere to sleep is better than in this van." Kave said.
And it was indeed a bottom of the barrel hotel... I could almost hear the rats... We're gonna need to shop new clothes after staying here. "How is this place still running..." Marxyn grumbled. "Too rundown for ya' city boy?" Coffee grumbled pushing past him. "I'm not a city boy psycho." he responded like the word psycho was a slur. "You're one to talk Mr. I killed my parents." She said. "How do you even know that about me!?" He said, following her into the room. "Sometimes I can't tell if they're flirting or arguing..." Kave muttered. I sighed loudly. I need a cigarette.
The next morning we set off, picking up breakfast at a Wendy's. "Let the 7 hour drive begin." I said buckling up. It feels like we've been driving back and forth for a whole week... Well, because we have. But I think we can actually get somewhere now. Amara has to have something... No one that old has nothing. The van stopped after a while and we were outside a decently nice house. "I was expecting a nursing home..." Coffee uttered. "Same here... But I guess she's rich enough for house help?" I answered. We got out of the van, leaving it on for James. We couldn't even walk up to the door before it swung open a woman who looked like me standing in the doorway, smiling ear to ear. "Oh you look just like Manny when he was younger!" She beamed, taking my hands. "I was so happy when he said you were coming!" She said, rambling quickly. she stared at me for a couple minutes before spotting the others and gasping. "Where are my manners! Come inside!" She said ushering us all inside. "Uh sorry if we're late-", "No No! You lot are right on time!" She said, closing the door. "I just finished baking some cookies! Sit down, have some!" She said, gesturing to the plate of cookies on the living room table. Kave didn't waste anytime and sat down, eating a cookie. I sat down next to him, smiling.
Her house was quite pretty and cozy. But it's clear she had money. "Your name is.. Pink, yes?" She asked, sitting down. "Oh, yes, it is!" I answered. "What a nice name..." She hummed. "Violet's your mother right? She was something as a teen!" she laughed. "She was always running off with that friend of her's. Even snuck out and got piercings!" Amara laughed. "What? Really?" I said. I'm learning so much about my mom... She never talked about herself, not even after he died. Who knew she had piercings! Wait, stay on track. "I'm sorry Miss Amara, but I'm here for a reason." I said. Amara smiled. "That's right! I almost forgot!". She pulled out a photo, handing it to me. It was a picture of a woman who looked just like me. Feel I'm saying this a lot... "This is my mother, Adama..." She said. Adama? That was the last name on the ancestry test. "Is she alive?" I asked and she shock her head. "No, she went missing when I was seven-teen." She muttered. "Oh... I'm sorry.", "No need... I've come to terms with it a long time ago." She said taking the picture from me. I can't imagine losing my mama so early... I don't know if I would live without her. Either killed by my father or by suicide.
