Chapter 7: Assimilation

Jacob was the first one to wake up. From where he lied on the bed, he could see Malak curled up on the couch as she hugged her pillow. He felt well rested as he slept well through the night. Malak seemed to have a good night of sleep as well while Nicolai watched over her. Nicolai would have woken Jacob up if she had a nightmare.

Jacob didn't need to get up as it was only eight in the morning, so he stayed on the bed and tried to think of his next step. He needed to figure out what he was going to do with Malak now that she was living in the pack house. He needed to decide when he will tell her about them because eventually someone one will shift in front of her by accident. He needed to figure out how to ease her into their lifestyle and show her not every wolf was like her tormentors.

From how everyone reacted to Malak yesterday, Jacob knows that the guys and their wolves were already attached to her. They already accepted her as part of the pack which baffled him. He doesn't know why everyone had been so accepting of this stranger but it worked in his favor. He thought that maybe it was because they were empathetic to her injuries and torturous past. Her bruises may had faded and stitches may had been removed but the scares were visible when you look closely.

Whatever the reason was, he needed to figure out how she will fit in with the rest of the pack. Everyone in his pack had a responsibility based on their strength. There were those who farmed, build, healed, trained, and protected. They all had an occupation that benefited the pack one way or another, which was how he was able to rebuild the pack after succeeding his father. After thinking for a while, Jacob decided he will let the pieces land where they fall because Malak was still a mystery to him.

As he waited for Malak to wake up to avoid what happened yesterday, Jacob took out his laptop and ordered Malak's new bedroom. Jacob ordered a custom twin size bed that had a similar structure to a couch and other furniture in light color scheme. An online representative and designer helped him to decide on a variety of light blues, soft pinks and shades of white for the furniture. Jacob was then advised to paint the room is soft creamy color. Jacob placed his order for express shipping that will take one week.

After ordering the bedroom set, Jacob completed his paperwork until Malak woke up. He watched her stir in pain for a minute before her eyes opened. Malak sat up and took her in surroundings as if she was lost until she saw Jacob on his bed.

"Good Morning." Malak said softly.

"Good Morning, how did you sleep?" Jacob asked her as he put away his laptop.

"Better. You?" She said starting to fold her cover.

"I slept well." He said while making his bed.

"How long were you awake?"

"Just for an hour, I had few things to do on my laptop." Jacob answered her and she nodded.

"Can I use the bathroom to freshen up?" Malak asked rubbing her wrist as if she was preoccupied.

"Sure, I can help you to the bathroom." Jacob approached her then picked her up to the bathroom and placed her on the counter next to the sink. Jacob then got a new toothbrush and handed it to her. Malak looked at it confused but didn't open it.

"It's a toothbrush." Jacob guessed she didn't recognize it.

"I know." Malak give him 'no duh' look. "It just I don't understand why you are giving me one." She informed him.

"I am giving you one because it's yours." Jacob asked confused.

"It's mine as in my own possession?" She asked bewildered, which confused Jacob even more.
