Around 6 pm, Jacob was finished with his work and went to look for Malak in the kitchen with Erik and Derek. Malak gave him smile that seemed more real while sitting on the counter next to the stove, stirring something in a pot. Jacob was truly happy to see her smile but he was more concerned about her sitting so close to an open flame.

“Hey, what have you been up to?” He said standing next to her.

“I am cooking!” Malak said excitingly and Jacob was surprised at the change of her persona; she was no longer whispering or acting too calm.

“Really, so what are you cooking?”

“Wild rice with roast beef, salad and mesh potato.” She said stirring the rice. Jacob couldn’t stop looking at her.

“Hey, you shouldn’t be sitting that close to the flames.” Jacob remembered and turned to move her away but she pouted and crossed her hand, which made him stop. Jacob thought her pouting was cute but couldn’t fathom how she seemed so different since earlier that day. “Why are you giving me that look?” He told her smiling.

            “What look?” Malak said confused.

“You have the cutest pout on.” Jacob chuckled and she blushed.

“I don’t want to move, I already had this conversation with Erik and Derek. So let me save you the trouble. I will not sit there and be waited on; otherwise I don’t think I could live here for long. So please let me do this.” Malak said, pleading with him.

There’s no point in arguing with her, she’s better than a crooked lawyers. Erik warned his Alpha.

“Ok, but do you have to sit by the fire? Couldn’t you do something else?” Jacob tried a different approach.

“It had been decided that it would be safest here stirring the rice.” Malak said while focusing on stirring. “I can’t use a knife to cut the salad or peel the potato with the brace in my hand.” Malak nodded to the guys working on the kitchen island. Erik was preparing a huge bowl of salad and Derek pealing hot potatoes.

Malak knew how to act more comfortable after spending time with Erik and Derek as they allowed her to do what she wanted within limits. They engaged in conversation and answered all of her question, without trying to pry any information out of her. She was trying to act in a way that seemed to please them. They viewed her caution as something worrisome. They seemed to be relax when she pretended to smile and showed more emotion.

“Anyways, we are almost done, how was work?” Malak asked to change the subject when Jacob gave up and leaned on the counter next to her.

“It was ok, I finished finalizing some paper work.” Jacob said vaguely. “You knew how to cook?” Jacob asked impressed with the menu since no one in the house could cook something that complicated.

“We are learning by using Derek’s IPad, it really easy when you follow the instructions.” Malak explain and Jacob remembered what he heard her say before he left.
