Chapter 9: Surprise.
Malak started gaining conscious with a migraine. She felt disoriented trying to remember where she was. The last thing she remembers after leaving the mall was being carried inside and placed on soft surface. She tried to sit up to get a better look at the dark room she was in, but the movement caused the migraine to get worse so she kept still. As her eyes got use to the darkness, she noticed a soft glow radiating from star shaped designs on the ceiling. They looked surreal as she reached her hand out as if she could touch them. Malak thought she was still dreaming until she caught movement to the right of her.
"Hey, it's me, I am going to just turn on the light." Malak forced herself to not scream while the light flooded the room. She saw Jacob, who was dressed in different outfit then she previously saw him. He was sitting on a chair next to where she was sleeping before he moved next to the door to turn on the light. Malak forced herself to sit up to look around the room and was speechless at the beauty of it.
The four walls were painted a soft creamy color that matched the furniture. Someone painted branches in white that faded in and out of the white ceiling. There was glass chandelier hanging from the ceiling with seven white tulips that has light bulbs in the center. She saw the outline of the different size stars that were taped all over the ceiling. The bed was a twin sized bed with three head boards that made it look like a huge couch. The one side was shaped like a couch back had large throw pillows leaning against it in the light shades of red and pink. The headboard and the footboard had small design of lilies in shades of pink and white. The same design was on the night stand, armchair and vanity dresser. The floor was dark oak hardwood like the rest of the third floor and in the middle of the room there was a thick creamy colored rug. The room was couple of feet smaller than Jacob's, but it was still big. It had two bay windows on the wall facing the door. One window had a small plant on the window sill and under it was small desk that had drawing and writing supplies. The other window sill had large pillows for her to sit on. On the left side of the door, the bed was against the wall with the foot board facing the windows. A small night stand was next to the bed with small lamb and an alarm clock and one draw. On the left side of the door, there was a beautiful vanity dresser with a bench and a large mirror with a wood outline that looked like branches and different type of flowers overflowing into the mirror. On the right wall, there were two doors that she would guess led to a bathroom and closet like in Jacob's room. In between the doors, there was a forty inch TV hanging on the wall.
"What do you think of your new room?" Jacob let her take in the room while moving the armchair back in its place in the corner connecting the right wall and the wall with the windows.
"My room?" Malak couldn't grasp what he mean in her shock.
"Yes yours, the guys been working on it all week and the furniture was delivered today... so do you like it? Do you want to change anything?" Jacob tried to read how she was feeling but her facial expression didn't show much except surprise. He couldn't figure out what she thought or what had happened at the store.
"It's perfect, nothing should be changed." She told him with soft smile. Jacob walked to the bed and sat next to her.
"Malak what happened at the store?"
"I got lost and had a panic attack." Malak repeated the same explanation that she stated in the car trying to appear honest by keeping eye contact.
"Why did you leave without telling anyone?" Jacob couldn't let it go. A panic attack might explain the state they found her but he needed to know what led to it. He needed to know she wasn't trying to escape.
"I had to go to the bathroom." Malak recited her alibi.
"We were only few feet away from where you shopped. You were found next to storage room crying out in pain on the other side of the store. I need to know if something happened to you." Jacob looked into her eyes trying to read her.
