Chapter 8: Runaway shopper
On her seventh day living in the pack house, Malak received the medical clearance to be mobile on her own while wearing a leg brace. For the first few hours, she practiced standing and being balanced for few minutes at a time. She was still weak because she hadn't been walking for last three weeks since she was found. By the afternoon that day, she was walking on her own; the others had to get use to not carrying her around the house and keeping a closer eye on where she goes.
The next day on Monday, Sarah, Dex, the twins and Jacob took Malak on a shopping trip to mostly get her out of the house. Jacob was notified of the bedroom set delivery and wanted the room to be surprise. Malak didn't seem excited about the idea of a shopping trip because of her first concern was how she will pay for it, even when Jacob told her it was a gift. Jacob thought the trip was also good opportunity to expose Malak to her new home.
Malak didn't care about the shopping trip because to her, owning a wardrobe meant permanency that she could never dream of. However, Malak didn't protest as she realized that she was getting comfortable being in the house to a point that she was reluctant to leave. But she had no other chose but to leave and the shopping trip was her chance. Malak just went into the car with shopping the last thing o¬n her mind.
Being conscious during a car ride was an odd experience to Malak as she had no other memories of riding in a car in a traditional matter. Malak knew she had been in cars, trains and planes but was always drugged during the ride. She would be only half conscious of being transported as she was tied up in a hidden compartment so they could sneak her past check points and boarders.
Malak could feel the memories creeping in as she sat next to Jacob in the back seat of the SUV. She struggled to stay in the present as the others point out different parts of the town. She faked interested in the different stores and land marks their town possessed to gain more knowledge of the town layout. By the time they parked in the mall parking lot, she already grasped the idea of where were the main roads out of town. Malak also noticed they passed a hospital that was only fifteen minutes car ride from the house. They could have easily dropped her off there in the last three weeks, that only strengthen her notion that they will not willingly let her leave.
As soon as they left the car, a protective circle was created around Malak and Sarah. Jacob walked next to Malak as he kept surveying the werewolves and humans that occupied the shopping center. The mall was on the border of his territory but the super natural knew his claim. For more precaution, he had a handful of guards and warriors stationed around the mall. He could feel Malak was uneasy but assumed it was because of the unfamiliar surroundings. He and his friends directed Malak from one store to another as they picked out clothing for her. She didn't pick out any of clothing stating she doesn't need it, which resulted in Sarah picking out the essentials.
At the last store, Jacob gave Malak and Sarah some space to see if Malak would become more comfortable and start engaging with Sarah. Few moments later, Jacob turned away from Sarah as she pointing out a coat to Malak. Jacob and the guys were talking about where they should go for lunch when they heard Sarah gasp. Jacob quickly turned around to see Sarah looking around franticly with Malak nowhere in sight.
"Where is she?" Jacob asked looking around their section of the store, the guys spreading in the slightly crowd store.
I don't know, I was just looking for this jacket in her side, she was standing right next to me. Sarah stated in a panic as she looked around.
How the hell she get away, I only glanced at you before she disappeared. Dex spoke feeling frustrated and bit fearful as he felt his wolf claw at him to get out.
