Chapter Three: Stitches and Knives
Jacob with doing the morning rounds with the betas, Dex and Eric when Sarah told him to come to the infirmary room quickly. Thinking that the rogues found away into his house witout him knowing, he prepared himself for a fight as he ran towards the pack house with the guys behind him. Once they arrived, Sarah and Dr. Joshua stepped aside to give him a better look in the room.
He did a quick sweep of the room looking for the danger that had Sarah so worried. His eyes finally came to the bed and saw her. He saw the girl awake, sitting on her knees, with her feet under her, leaning on the headboard. She was holding a small surgical knife with her left hand and had her casted right hand cradled on her lap. She was frantic, her eyes connected with him for a seconds, sizing him up, before turning emotionless. But he saw the seconds of fear that reflected through and could hear her frantic heartbeat. He knew she was trying to appear unaffected but was truly scared, and Nicolai didn’t like the thought of her being scared of them. So he told Jacob to make her feel safe or he was taking control. Jacob wanted to yell in frustration but instead soften his featured and tried to look friendly. But he didn’t think it was working because she seemed ready for a fight while searching the room for an escape.
Jacob took a slow step forward, to not try to scare her but wanted to protect Sarah and Dr. Joshua in case she threw the knife at anyone. He didn’t know how she would respond to anything after all she had been through. When he stepped closer, she shift herself more to face him and he saw her wince and remembered that her legs weren’t completely healed.
“Hello, my name is Jacob. Do you remember me?” He tried the friendly approach but got no response. “I found you injured in the forest. Do you remember me from there?” She didn’t response and kept changing her stare from him to the people behind him. He looked back to see what grabbing her attention and saw that the guys had followed him in the room, which could be a very intimating sight to a human.
Gabriel and Michael were a little bit taller than six feet, had blue eyes, brown hair, bronzed skin, and medium size muscular bodies. Dex was six foot two inches, had black eyes and hair, with a dark tan and body builder type of body. Eric was six foot three, red short wavy hair that was cut mid-length, blue grey eyes, with pale skin with light freckles on his nose and checks, and a lean body. He looked the least intimating compared to the rest of Jacob’s warriors and guards but he was the most lethal.
What happened? Why does she have a knife? Jacob asked Sarah and Dr. Joshua but kept the mind link open to the guys too.
We don’t know. We turned around and suddenly she was awake, grabbing the knife from the tray I was using to check on her stitches. She seems to have difficulty communicating but she’s been looking for a way out. I don’t think she’s any harm to us. She’s just scared. Dr. Joshua explained as he tried to assess the situation.
I think she’s hurt. Sarah told them.
It looks like she knows how to use that knife. Dex warned, referring to how her hand was wrapped around the handle with the blade end next to her little finger, with the edge facing outward towards them. Her grip of the knife show them she was prepared to slash someone. Inexperienced person would hold a knife in a loose grip, pointing the knife toward their attackers, as if it was a sword.
Try to look friendly, we want to gain her trust before she hurts herself. Jacob told them in the twenty seconds he waited for the girl to reply. He wasn’t really worried about the knife, he was werewolf which meant faster healing process, speed and strength. The person who would really get hurt if she tried to attack them was her.
