Introduction
It was already 1 a.m., when Jacob finished all his work for the pack and his family company. As Alpha, Jacob was the werewolf leader of his pack, a full-time job that he can’t clock out of, even when he desperately needed sleep. But tonight, he had high hopes that he would get few hours of sleep. He was heading to bed at 1 a.m., his mind still racing about how he had to be up by sunrise, patrol the pack land, call the neighboring pack for updates on any threats in the area, how he needs to touch bases with the majority of his pack members and the list never ends.
He tried to calm his mind enough to fall asleep, but he started to feel his wolf growing uneasy. His wolf, Nicolai, was a part of him but they weren’t one. He was a werewolf, just like his pack, just like 1% of the world’s population. Werewolves were humans who share a connections with a wolf spirit, sharing the same body but were two different concessions that share the same space. They could hear each other’s thoughts and feel each other’s emotions; which means if Nicolai was uneasy, Jacob wasn’t getting any sleep tonight.
What’s wrong? Jacob asked Nicolai by projecting his thoughts to him.
I don’t know but something is out there. I think we need to petrol. Nicolai grew apprehensive as Jacob got off the bed and went up to their bedroom window, smelling the fresh air. I smell blood. Jacob jumped out the window hearing the urgency in Nicolai’s tone. Jacob landed smoothly and took off running. Let me! Nicolai took over and shifted into their wolf form. Jacob lied back letting Nicolai find the source of the blood in the forest that surrounded their home. Nicolai was heading toward the east side of the territory.
Gabriel! Michael! I need all the guards alert and warriors searching the whole land. Just follow my scent from the pack house to find me, we are following an unknown scent. Jacob called to his Beta twins through the telepathic pack link.
We are on our way. Michael replied quickly and Jacob sensed Gabriel giving out orders, putting everyone on alert.
What are we looking for? Jacob asked trying to prepare for what they are going to find.
It’s faint. But I don’t think its animal blood. There shouldn’t be anyone hunting at this hour any way. Nicolai tried not to cause his human any panic, so he kept from him that the blood also smelled like death. Nicolai ran as fast as possible towards the scent until they reached the boarder of their territory. Nicolai could sense the source of the blood was in this area of the woods but it was somehow masked, it was becoming even fainter but it wasn’t moving away. He could tell that it was here, in this small meadow in their forest. He walked around more trying to pin point where it came from. But he couldn’t find a direction, it was just there. I can’t find it. Nicolai was growing more frustrated and fearful from whoever was there. He could sense they weren’t going to live long.
Let me try! Jacob came forward and changed into their human form. He looked around the meadow and the forest floor didn’t look like it was disturbed. So he looked up in the trees but it was too dark to see anything. He shifted his eyes and was able to see better in the dark but still couldn’t find anything. How come we only smell blood without a scent? Is it human? Werewolf? Did they leave?
It’s being masked. I can’t tell who or what it is. But I know it’s here! Nicolai told him, as he reach out his senses further. He didn’t sense anyone close by that wasn’t a part of his pack. Wait the willow tree. Nicolai noticed how the tree branches were rearranged to hide something at its base.
