Wish I could jump off that reckless train of thought
-Lucy Hale, Nervous GirlsEvangeline Hemmings -
I woke up on my bed, with Luke sitting worriedly in a chair next to me. I quickly grabbed my journal and wrote every single detail I could down about my episode. I hadn't realized I was crying so hard until I saw a tear drop onto the notebook page. Finishing writing down the vision, I slammed closed the book and ran over to Luke.
I sobbed and sobbed for what seemed like hours, until I just didn't have any tears left. I just sat in Luke's lap, hiccuping and having him rocking me back and forth. When I finally calmed down, Luke asked the question I had been waiting for.
" What was it about Birdie? " Luke asked, the protectiveness in his voice cloaking me, making me feel safe like only he can. He called me Birdie only when he was scared or nervous, so I knew that I had to tell him. Taking a deep breath, I prepared myself to relive the episode again.
I grabbed his hand, looking into his eyes as another tear slipped out of mine. He nodded and I begun projecting. Projecting is something that our bloodline can do with enough practice. I had been working on it for weeks and had it just about mastered. After you had an episode you could play it back into someone else's mind.
After the episode was done, I knew that it wasn't very clearly projected, Luke only receiving bits and pieces of the vision. I know that he saw the ending though, because he clutched me so tightly afterwards, and from the wetness on my shirt, I knew he was crying as well.
" What does this- what does this mean? " I asked Luke through my tears. His bright blue eyes looked up into my own.
" I- I honestly don't know Evangeline. But what ever happens, you have to promise me that you will stay safe. What ever happens we'll get through this, as a family. " He said, his voice quivering.
I heard a soft knock on the door, and I worriedly looked at Luke, knowing it was Alice. He got up from our sitting position on the bed, and opened the door for Alice. She came in and tackled me with a hug.
" I heard you screaming and crying, so I assumed it was a bad one. Are you okay? " She whispered into my ear softly. I looked into her eyes, making sure they were still the blue green orbs I knew. I hesitantly nodded.
" I will be. " I answered curtly. " Thank you. "
She got up, looking hurt. " I guess I'll leave then... " She trailed off, and then left without looking at me again.

A week after my episode, I was still having nightmares, and Luke was leaving tomorrow.
In honor of my mentors leaving, I decided that I wanted to hold a dinner, just our family and the mentor's families. Alice and I were putting the last touches on a days work of cooking with Luke. We had prepared a traditional Hemmings family dinner, a recipe that had been passed down for generations. " Alice, I'm really sorry for last week. You're going to have to talk to me sooner or later. It was just so terrible and I didn't want to talk to anyone. Soon enough you will understand. " I said softly, wiping down the counter.
" You mean you didn't want to talk to anyone besides Luke, right. I mean, I understand Evangeline, he's been through it as well, I'm the odd woman out, but you can talk to me okay! I'm going to be all you have left while Luke is gone for god knows how long! I just wish you trusted me more. I may be younger than you but I want you to be able to confide in me, I need you to be able to tell me things. " She said, and I could hear the tears she was choking back. I turned to her and embraced her tightly, smoothing her hair down.
" Shh, Rabbit you're okay. I'm sorry you felt- feel- that way. That was never my intention. I promise I will project you my next episode if that will make you happy? " I reasoned, pulling back from the hug to wipe her tears. She nodded hesitantly. " The mentors and their families will be arriving soon, let's go and get ready. " We headed up the grand staircase to our respective rooms to prepare for the dinner ahead.
I put on one of the many formal dress that I owned from the dinner parties we had held in the past. This one happened to be strapless cream dress that fit our families modesty standards. I straightened my hair and put it back in a headband that had a cream rose bundle on it.
Someone knocked on my bedroom door and I granted them entry. " Wow, you look stunning. " An unfamiliar voice complimented me. I spun around quickly to identify the person who the voice belonged to. I then saw the one and only Carr Janning standing in front of my bed.
" Carr?! What are you doing here? " I squealed, giving him a hug. Carr was my betrothed, I was to marry him when I turned twenty. Luke was betrothed to Blithe Ronan, the second in line to be successor. If Luke won the election, she would be his Queen.
" Your brother invited my family as well. Since Mel will be going away with the boys, I think this the the goodbye. " He said. I almost forgot about Carr's older sister, Mel. She was also in running for Queen this year. If Luke had invited the Janning family, then the Ronan family must be coming as well.
" Let's go down, shall we? " I asked, putting out my arm for the boy beside me to link his arm through mine. We walked down the staircase together to find a house full of people.
This night will definitely be one to remember.
