I don't feel right when you're gone away
-Seether, Broken

Evangeline Hemmings -

" Do you really have to go? They're going to take you away from me right now? " I whined to my older brother, who was silently packing his clothes into our Papa's old leather suitcase.

" Eva, you know I have no choice. I would never leave willingly leave you. Alas, I am now the successor, and Papa would've urged me to do these things, you know that. Besides, you will have Alice to keep you company and Margo who will be of assistance with your episodes. " He told me, never once looking up from his suitcase. I traced my finger on the picture frame that held a photo of our unbroken family.

" I understand that Papa would want you to do this, I really do. Margo just isn't the same as you though. I've met with her twice already and I know she won't be as helpful as you have been. I don't see why we just couldn't tag along with you. " I suggested for the millionth time. Luke looked up at me, instantly locking our eyes.

" I love you so much Eva, but you know that isn't possible. Alice will be very dependent on you after she turns. I'm sorry that we have to leave you alone with her, but I have faith in you." He said, gripping my hands tightly. Looking into his eyes, I felt safe. He was someone who will always keep me safe, even if it meant risking his own life. He was so much like Papa.

" I know. I just wish it didn't have to be like this. " I whispered, leaning into his chest as he pulled me into a bone-crushing hug.

After I pulled away, I turned to the door and made my way to Alice's room. Alice was fifteen, I was seventeen, and Luke was nineteen, so Alice and I were still going to school at St. Mark's Academy. I lightly knocked on Alice's door, and when she granted my entry, I walked in.

" Luke's leaving tomorrow. " I said softly, lowering myself into a chair across from Alice's bed.

" What?! " She exclaimed, instantly bolting up from the relaxed position she was in.

" Since Papa and Mama died, he will is the next successor. He needs to go off with the rest of the older mentors and train for that. We will not be going with. " I said as calmly as I could. Alice just huffed and flopped back on her bed.

" What am I gonna do when I turn? I can already feel the transitions. I'm getting headaches and my body hurts. " Alice said, a scared quiver present.

" Don't worry Rabbit, Luke has already arranged for Margo to mentor us while he's gone. I will also be helping you every step of the way, so don't worry your pretty little head. " I said, leaning forward to lightly muss her hair. She smiled softly at the childhood nickname.

" Thank you Birdie, I love you. " She said smiling. I kissed the top of her head and walked down the hallway to my own room.

I was reaching for the knob when I felt the aching in my head, and suddenly it was as if someone had driven a knife through my skull. A vision was coming, and this was one of my worst yet. I fell to the floor and managed to call for Luke.

He rushed out of his room, and before he could say anything to guide me, it was too late.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I was in the operational building, sitting in a section next to Ashton Irwin's, one of my royal mentors and my brothers good friend, family. The court room was decorated for Summer Solstice, so that meant it was time to throne the new king or queen.

I had never had the privilege to go to a crowning, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I saw Luke, Ashton, Calum, Michael, and a boy and girl that I didn't know standing at the front of the throne room. I assumed the two unknown people were from the Janning and Ronan family. I was very interested in watching all the little details in the ceremony that took place, taking mental note on everything.

A blood curdling scream interrupted my focus and that's when I realized what was wrong, Alice was not by my side as she should've been. I quickly turned to where the scream originated, as did everyone else. What I saw horrified me.

Alice's face was terrifying. It appeared that she had just bitten someone, and drained them completely. Her eyes, instead of their usual bright blue, were a deep and horrifyingly dangerous red. She looked at the crowd with a mix of fear and remorse, but the darkness in her seemed to taker over, and the smirk that had been painted on her face sent a chill down my spine.
