-ifting off with a whine of rotors. A rumble of thunder sounded ominously overhead, and the higher they went, the more pungent the scent of rain. The Night City skyscrapers kept going, kept rising along with them as they turned towards their target. Neon lights and LED ad banners flashed over Johnny's eyes, glaring reflections in his sunglasses.
A sign for Orbital Air there. Some poster for yet another zombie Nomad movie there. An NCPD safety scroll. A huge ad from Gibson Battlegear, showing off the latest fashion trends in bodyguard merch. SUMMER 2023 COLLECTION - BUY NOW, the sign screamed.
Johnny smirked. 2023... this time last year he'd been...
He jumped as a jolt of lightning flashed overhead, followed by a pealing roar of thunder that shook the Militech chopper in midair. The smart turret in the door automatically popped up, activated by the vibrations. Rogue punched out a hand and hit a button on the side, causing the weapon to go into stow mode. It stayed up, but the barrel retracted.
And then the rain started pouring.
Johnny leaned out a little, staring down along with the rain at the streets below. They were soaring over The Glen now, just a hop and skip away from their target.
He could see a sea of bodies down below, roiling around the streets like ants on old trash. There were the faintest hints of shouting and yelling over the rain, the telltale glint of molotovs being throne, the sight of trash bins and cars getting toppled and thrown; his fans were fucking riled up all right.
A smirk had just started forming on his lips when he saw something else; a red sweep of a tactical laser across the crowd. He flinched as a rake of gunfire erupted from a wall of black-clad figures that appeared in a line along the street, pushing towards the rioting fans. The bullets chewed through about twenty people, the screams reaching them all the way up in the chopper.
"Sons of bitches!" Johnny hissed, his silver hand tightening so much on the hold handle he felt it bend.
Thompson, another one of their merry gang off doing his own thing for the op, suddenly cut in on comms, voice tense as he asked, "Skull-crackin' out there - that us?"
"Johnny's idea," Rogue said casually, staring down at the fight below. "Weyland's workin' with the fans to draw Arasaka's attention away from the tower."
