Now that you know how dashes can be used in and out of dialogue, it's important to heed the following warnings:
> Use dashes sparingly
Readers (and editors) do not generally enjoy seeing dashes splattered all over the page. Dashes are not to be used to replace commas. If it makes sense to use a comma in place of a dash, use the comma.> Proper punctuation
If you use a dash at the end of a sentence, do not end the sentence with a period! You can end the sentence with other punctuations, such us exclamation marks: "Hey watch it – !" or question marks: "How in the name of Je—?" but never a full stop.
