Maybe someone's voted for your story, and you thought, hey! Maybe they'll be interested in reading my *other* book! Maybe you just stumble along profile after profile, either at random or following some inexplicable pattern. Maybe you're doing it for a "friend".
Whatever the reason, you find yourself reaching for that "Message" button, and you begin to type in something that sounds something like:
Hey! I noticed that you liked my book, "This is my Wish Fulfillment Poorly Hidden in a Badly-Edited Romance-Fantasy" -- I think maybe you might also enjoy reading my work, "This is SPAM, Bitch", which you can find in this link below.
Or
I have a friend who could use all the votes/comments she can get. Please check out her book at this link.

Now. Different people may have different levels of tolerance for this, but it's better safe than sorry. So please, do not press that "send" button. Unless you personally know the person you're sending the letter to, they may consider this as spam.
Other Wattpad users tend to be more forgiving when it comes to this ... a lot of Wattapadians are amateur, beginning writers after all. What do they know about advertising and promotion?
But sweetcakes, take this behaviour to another platform -- Goodreads, for instance -- I dare ya. You'll have the wolves feasting on your corpse by sundown.
Here's the bottom line: customers don't generally appreciate being spammed. And this, my lovelies, is spam.
