Today, I had the misfortune of stumbling across an old conversation between wattpad writers. No links or names will be provided to preserve anonymity (because even entitled pricks deserve privacy).
The initial topic of the conversation was benign enough. Original Poster was asking whether there had been a recent error in the wattpad algorithm because their work has "been in the top 10s for weeks and now is only in the top 100s".
I'm paraphrasing, of course, and that question is normal enough. Nothing entitled about it. It's a genuine concern, if a little pompous (after all, what makes you think others couldn't push you out of the top 10s?)
But then I made the mistake of reading through the conversation, and later it became apparent that Original Poster has some kind of ... superiority complex.
I'm paraphrasing again (and some numbers have been skewed to -- again -- protect OP's identity), but among the things they said included:
"The #1 book in Fantasy has only got 500 votes. I get that many votes in a day."
"I'll probably get back in the top 10s after I update."
"I hope it's a glitch. If it is, good for the people who got their one day of fame in the top 10s. lol."
Wow.
I mean, wow.
Good for the people who got their one day of fame ??
Can you be any more passive-aggressive?
Why can't you just be happy for the people who get in the higher ranks, instead of passive-aggressively insinuating that the only reason they got there is because of a glitch?
The only reason you got to the top is because you used massive follow-unfollow techniques (AKA SPAMMING) to get the traction you do, by the way. And this is not a theory; I actually saw this writer in spamming action back in their early days.
And when someone asked (in another conversation) if they really just follow 3 people, they made no mention about the spamming technique they used in the past.
Some people have no shame.
