HARRY STYLES
"How is Leo doing?" I asked Carli over the phone. I took a right and hit the gas, looking down at my speedometer.
"You would know if you were home." Carli said, sadly. "You aren't spending time with us Harry. Is something going on?"
Only if I could tell you, princess.
"Nothing is going on, I'm just busy. I'll be home tonight, I promise." I said, seeing the green sign of the town that the cabin was in. It took a couple of hours to get here and my legs were starting to fall asleep. Rain was hitting the windows softly, cars zooming past me to unknown places.
I heard Carli sigh, a sign of her being upset. "Fine." She simply said, hanging up on the call. I put my phone in the front seat as I turned on a gravel road. The trees were slowly losing their leaves, a sign of fall coming. I drove down the road and saw the cabin appear. I parked at the side, getting in and shutting the door. The place looked lonely and dark, signs of life long gone. I thought of renting this place out but I can't get myself to do it. I walked up to the door and fished the keys out of my jean pocket. I unlocked the door and swung it open, frowning as the contents of the cabin was turned upside down. It was as if someone was looking for something. I raised my eyebrows as I saw pairs of Carli's lingerie on the ground. I had remembered she left them here the last time we stayed, thinking we could come back anytime. I picked them up and sat theM on the couch. Broken glass pieces were covering the floor, my boots scrunching against them as I walked.
I passed the mess, only caring for one thing. I opened the door to the basement, walking down the steps. Stuff was neatly placed-- whoever went crazy upstairs didn't even touch anything down here. The air was damp and musty as I bent down. I unhooked a secret entrance and opened it. There was a wooden box embedded in the dirt-- just what I wanted. I grabbed a little key from my pocket and opened the box up.
A wallet.
A locket.
A cell phone.
A picture.
I picked everything up and held it in my arms as I locked the box back up. I slammed the door closed and went upstairs, making my way to the car. I got in and shut the door, setting the things in my lap. Everything belonged to Sophia. The picture was from two years ago-- my hands around her waist as she smiled. It was a stupid day, but she insisted on capturing it. I put the photo in my jacket and grabbed my phone, dialing Karl's number.
"S'up."
"I need you to get a few men up to the cabin. Someone broke in and I want to get answers. Do whatever you can to retrieve information." I ended the call and drove back home.
-
"I sent men down." Karl replied as I walked in. I nodded and dropped the bag of things on his desk. He looked up from the magazine he was studying and raised his eyebrows. "What's this?"
"These belong to Sophia. I have a bad feeling and I trust you to do your best."
"What do you want me to do?" He asked confused.
"I want you to try and go through her phone records. Trace the calls-- find out who she was calling a week before her death. Her wallet might have some answers, so look there if you must." I looked out of the window and chewed on my bottom lip.
"Dude. You do know she died like.. years ago right? It's going to be pretty hard to retrieve anything at this point."
"Did I ask for your opinion?" I snapped.
"Why are you even doing this? Why do you care? Carli isn't going to like this one bit." Karl said taking the old phone out of the bag.
"Carli wont know." I hissed, walking out of the room. I felt my phone vibrate, making me look down as I shoved my hand down in my pocket.
"Styles." I snapped as I walked to my car.
"I told you not to chase."
CARLI
I giggled as I washed Leo with some baby soap, his eyes wide and his tongue sticking out several times. "Do you like this baby?" I cooed, smiling as he blinked slowly, his eyes following my voice. He looked in my direction and gurgled softly, spit bubbles coming from his mouth. The soap I was using was supposed to help Leo sleep, since he had a hard time sleeping through the night. I know it's what newborns do, but I wanted to make him as comfortable and happy as I can. I grabbed a light blue towel that was soft and carefully picked Leo up in my arm. I wrapped the towel around him and carried Leo to his room. He cried out as he was laid on the changing table, a pout on his cute little face.
"Oh stop." I giggled, putting him in a clean diaper and footsie pajamas. I picked him up and laid him on my chest, the smell of clean baby filling my nose. I rocked him gently as I walked downstairs, making my way to the living room. I sat down and grabbed Leo's blanket, laying it over him. I snuggled him tighter to me and heard Leo softly whine. I patted his back as I heard the front door open, followed by curse words and a slam of the door. Leo opened his little eyes at the sudden noise, making me whine as he started to cry.
Harry walked into the room with a hard look on his face. "What happened??"
"You slammed the door, that's what." I hissed. His features softened as he walked over to us, sitting down and taking Leo from me. He held the little baby in his large hands, rocking Leo up and down as he softly cooed nonsense to him. I watched Harry interact with Leo, my anger towards him still apparent. Why couldn't he take time off? I don't have time to be his babysitter, I'm his fiance and mother of his child.
Harry got up and carried Leo upstairs to bed. I sat there alone, looking around for something to do. I gave up trying to do something and grabbed the remote to the TV.
What a wonderful life I have.
