[Madaline's POV]
I watched my father go in confusion, and ran as fast as I could back to where Mom and Sire were. "What is he talking about my real father? He's my real father! Right?"
Mom looked down sad, "No honey, he died while I was pregnant. I raised you for that little time to think Miles was your father. I'm sorry."
I stared at her in shock, then anger rose in me like a lit fuse, "AND YOU NEVER THOUGHT TO MENTION THAT?! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH GRIEVE THAT WOULD OF SAVED ME?!" I screamed so loud that I was panting, and I shook my head. "No, no I won't deal with this. Not yet. You have to go, stay away from me. Goodbye." I turned around tugging at Sire's arm and he just looked at me.
"Ma-" he was about to say something, but I cut him off with, "Don't speak Sire, please. I'm tired, I'm hungry, and I'm in desperate need to be out of the woods with humanity." Hearing this, Sire put me on his tail, and wrapped his coat around us. I couldn't see, but heard Mom saying, "His grave is in Central Maddy, his name is Samuel Seather. He's near the back left corner. Goodbye baby." Then she was gone.
I grasped tightly on to Sire's fur as I felt him run, and I couldn't help those tears that welled into my eyes and trickled out. My family was a sham and it was all I ever had to keep going. My mother lied to me, my father was anything but, and the man who created me was now dead. What left did I have, than being a wolf's slave? I was worthless...
[Poloagma (Sire)'s POV]
It took about four hours, but we managed to make it to Central, and I swallowed looking around. I listened as a woman said something about a chicken, and received a raw one. If only I could get my hands on one. I walked up to the clerk, and he looked at me in shock as if I was a beast-well...I guess on the contrary I was.
"C-can I help you sir?"
I tried to speak, "Chicken," but some weird clash of sounds come out. He stared at me funny, and I sighed poking at Madiline to wake up. When she did, she climbed out from under my coat, and you should of seen the clerk's face then.
"Hi, my friend here would like a chicken, and does anyone here happen to sell hoods like my own?" Madiline asked yawning, and the clerk gave us the chicken as we exchanged for money, and shook his head. "Okay, thank you anyways."
We walked to the nearest sitting stable, and cooked the chicken over a barbecue pit, then I tore it to shreds. I noticed that Madiline wasn't as herself as she used to be. She didn't fight back, didn't care, had nothing to live for except that town.
She stood up moments later saying, "I want to see the grave."
I bowed my head to her still eating, and once finished that's where we went to. There was only one graveyard in this town, and it was smack dab right in the middle. It was so huge that the graves were each spread out wide from each other, and only later close if asked to be. This was where I always wanted to be buried when I was a boy. I liked thinking of the privacy for my corps, but it really didn't matter now. I would be burned alive.
"Here we are." Maddy took off her red hood, and handed it to me then walked in. I didn't understand why she did so, but I didn't ask. We walked for maybe a half hour or longer finally finding the grave. Madiline sat on her knees in front of it saying, "It's a shame we never met...Father. I give you my thanks that you were only whom didn't destruct my heart, and bare this gift." She pulled a knife immediately, and before I could stop her she sliced through her palm, letting the blood drip on his tombstone.
"Are you crazy?! Give me that!" I took her knife from her, where ever she got it from, then started to suck off the blood in replacement with my saliva. She winced a few times, and I lectured her how it was her own damn fault, though I doubt she heard.
"Don't we need to go to Oran, Sire? We can finally retrieve your jewel, and you may do what you wish with it." Madiline told me, and I sighed. I sat on the ground, and was a little surprised when I heard, "What do you think death feels like Sire? I think, in the end. We all will just start floating high in the sky, and eventually just vaporize into specks of life, then be sucked into another body, being one with other specks of life. You?"
"I don't believe in another life. What you describe, I think it may happen, but we won't be there to see it. We will think we are just sleeping, until we forget everything and are reincarnated into a new being. That is my belief. No after life, just the rest you pleaded for all your damn bloody life." That, that right there, was the only thing I deeply and truly believed, that I had ever shared with anyone.
"I believe you." Was all she said, and laid her head on my knee. It wasn't long till she started weeping, and I rubbed her head softly. Why I would do anything to redo that moment over and over again, I haven't a clue. Something happened in that moment, something changed or snapped. Either my heart started working again, or Madiline broke down to my level. At that very moment, my life came back to me once again, in the form of a sleeping child. I would do anything for her to stay mine, and I don't know why.
_______________________
I ended up managing to get a room for us, by writing everything down in the form of a three year old's intelligence in the art of writing. Either way, I managed to afford one room and bed with Maddy's money, a shared bathroom down the hall, and a kitchen down stairs with a library.I placed Madiline on the bed, laying down for my own will, then grabbed Madiline. Her eyes shot open in fear at first, but then she calmed down staring back at me. I don't know what I had intended to do in that moment, but I wanted to do something.
I hovered over her like I did my prey, grasped onto the ends of her torn dress, and gazed into her eyes. I swallowed, and started to climb back off her not understanding what just happened, and we laid still for the longest of time.
"Sire," she finally said after over an hour had passed.
"Yes puppet, what is it?"
"What did you plan on doing?"
"The sad thing about that question is, I have no idea." Which was the truth.
"How old were you when you turned into a wolf?"
"I was still a lad. Fifteen. I was ready to get a wife of my own, have children once she turned fifteen, and life would go on cheerfully. Though, I disappeared in the middle of that plan, and she died days after I proposed. It wasn't meant to be with her, and there were only three women in our pack of seven men. Romeo got one, mated, she died at birth conceiving Hideous. Every woman did except your mother, because Miles was her "Mate" and "Lover" in the real world, but they couldn't love each other. Your mother never loved your father if you understand what I am referring to when I say that. With that done, she never got pregnant and never died. I wasn't about to take her will, and I was here with you. My love was never felt nor received, yet I had all I wanted. It just wasn't meant to be."
Madiline looked at me, then grabbed on to my hand saying, "All will be right with the world, though do you really want to be a wolf once more?"
I looked up, "I haven't a clue what I want Madiline. I'm just as dammed as a beaver caught in a trap."
"You don't know that Sire, you just don't know." With that, she let go and walked out to the library.
That was where you were wrong my puppet, who could love such a creature that I was. Half man and beast, I mine as well be burned by stake, because my pain was just as bad. My beloved was dead by my hand, my beastly form would keep all other practices away, and my heart was a burnt piece of rubble.
I forced my mind away from that thought, my only chance in making a somewhat successful life, was to be a weapon to the King. He remains immortal, so I shall beg for a placement in his military force with that ring, and hopefully live without criticism any longer. Madiline would then be free, and we shall never speak to another again. I was satisfied and I knew she too would be.
I sat up cringing. Why was this lump in my throat appearing from the thought to never see her again? Why did I care so much about her well being?...
Why did I just hear her scream?
