[Madiline's POV]
Fifteen Years Later. My eyes opened easily as I wiped my mouth. I swallowed remembering the first time I met wolf. His voice wasn't there, yet it was at the same time. It was more of a feeling than actually being heard.
Gona, my guardian had sent me out that rainy day to drop off the bread she made to the local customers, but that had been my first time out alone. I went down the wrong rode, and landed in the woods. I knew where I was, I wasn't scared at all, then...I saw him. Wolf.
Wolf stared at me deeply with those piercing eyes, he crept near me little by little, stalking me like prey, but I wasn't scared for some reason. I mean, I feared him, but I wasn't scared if that makes any sense. I knew he was hungry, I could tell that by his ribs slightly showing. By then, I offered him a loaf of bread, not knowing what else to do, and I could see disappointment in his eyes, but despite that, he thanked me.
I watched him, and could hear his confusion. It was as if he was asking me who I was, so I answered. I didn't mind at all, I enjoyed being able to somewhat speak to someone. But, what grasped my attention the most that actually shot terror in me, was when I could feel him saying, "Go back to your home, your lucky you fed me that bread or I would of ate you for dinner." I am probably the only idiot that would of asked the hungry wolf if he wanted to truly eat me, but he roared, "GOOO!" And I cried out, "Got it!" Running for the life that I didn't know I had the privilege of keeping that day.
Everyday, I have a dream about that wolf. The same dream to how we met, and it still fears me that he may eat me eventually. That one wolf alone could kill this small shabby village as if it was nothing, but for some reason, he chose not to. Probably because of my peace offering, but I haven't a clue.
I got up from my cot and grabbed my rundown white dress, then placed on my black thick shoes. My head aches from the lack of sleep, but I was used to it. I always had to get up very early to make the three loafs of bread for the wolf as the peace offering, though I never did see him after that last day.
When I first saw the wolf, and he told me to leave, I went back to him again that moonlit night. I went back to the exact spot where I saw him, trembling with fear this time and called out, "Wolf? Wolf come out, p-wease! I wan- talk you!"
The wolf appeared moments later, and he growled ferociously. "Why do you disturb my hunt?"
"I-I did-aunt think you still be Hun-ing. Umm, Wolf-" The wolf cut me off, roaring at me, "Have some respect for me! I can kill you in one second! You know I'm hungry, so talk you pathetic being! I don't call you human, so don't call me wolf! Call me something with honor!"
I shrieked at the wolf's sudden fury, and fell stumbling back. "P-p-p-wease S-S-Sire, I wan- make deal wit- you. Three loafs of bread. W-ne for my safe-y, and two for town safe-y. P-P-lease Sire, I beg on me life." With that said, I got up from my bum and into my knees, my hands grasping each other tightly in the air and my head bowed, touching the muddy ground.
The wolf growled lighter this time, "Leave me a basket here with three bread loafs in it child, and your wish will be my command until one goes missing or all. Once that happens, either you go, or the town goes. If all three, the both of you will parish from existence." With that, the wolf turned his back to me, and I never saw him after that. I go to leave my bread, and when I go back the next day, it's gone.
I cooked my bread faster than ever known possible, set the fire, then once it was ready, I put it in a basket with out my fingers lacing it, and carried it to the woods, with my red hood covering me. The Moon was the only thing that shined my path, if I was to get a lantern, that would be too obvious.
