Michael stood outside, snow covering his shoes and his luggage in tow. He stared at the house that sat before him, taking in the fact that it looked the same as when he left. A small smile creeped its way to his face before he heard the crunch of the snow beneath him. As he approached the door, his hand reached for the doorknob before it swung open to reveal your excited expression before him.
"Welcome back!" You threw your arms around Michael before he could step over the threshold. A grunt escaped his lips as he caught you. "I missed you," you giggled.
You finally backed away, allowing him to enter into the house, finally getting the warmth he craved since the car ride from the airport.
"It's so good to be back." His voiced huffed. You were already busy grabbing his bags, bringing them to the side to allow him to shed his winter layers. "I need to shower. I've got airplane all over me." He laughed, stepping forward to grab your waist. He looked down, meeting your eyes with a spark. His hands moved to your face, gently touching your cheek before bending to connect his lips with yours. The kiss, although short, felt like home. He's home.
As Michael showered, you began to tidy up. You had repeated this action each day for the last week, but felt like there was always something to move, declutter, or clean. His luggage went into the bedroom, the fireplace was lit, and the water was boiling. Being that it was only noon, you didn't think Michael would want to go to sleep just yet, but jetlag can be a mood killer. So, you patiently waited in front of the fire, allowing the warmth to hit your nose as you heard the water running through the floor above. God, you missed the sounds of him being home.

As Michael made his way back to the living room, you could smell his shampoo before ever seeing any part of him. Everything about him being here was reminding you of just how much you had missed him.
You turned around, seeing his tired smile.
"Come sit," you said, holding up the mugs in front of you. "I made hot cocoa."
"Yum, thank you, Baby." He sat beside you, taking the mug from your hand and pressing a kiss to your cheek. The heat from the fireplace burrowed you both in it, almost as if it was hugging you. The silence was comforting, a slight crackle of wood passing by. Your head rested on Michael's shoulder while your hands cupped the mug, waiting for it to cool down before sipping. You felt his head lean slightly atop yours before he spoke up, breaking the silence.
"Why are we sitting on the floor?" It almost came out as a chuckle, making you smile while a slight blush rose to your cheeks.
"I was cold," you whispered, motioning your chin slightly towards the fire. Michael didn't reply, instead allowing his chest to rise and fall with a sigh. You could tell it was a content sigh, one that signified he was happy to be home and resting.
"Nice sweater," this time, Michael's voice was quieter. His fingers playing with the hem of your sweater before finding their way to yours. This was the first time you'd held his hand in months. You almost forgot what he said, getting lost in the feel of his skin on yours.
"It's one week to the holidays; you weren't here for the decorating. We have to shove all the spirit into this next week!" Your eyes were fixated on your hands together, watching as his thumb played with your delicate fingers. Silence followed once more, the wood crackling again, and both of your breathing getting more rapid with each second. It was almost as if you had flown back in time, feeling nervous around him again and hoping he makes the next move.
"I'm just so happy to be home," he whispers with a kiss to the top of your head. His hands never left yours, the blush upon your face deepening. You could feel the butterflies rising into your chest and felt your heart beat faster. Your eyes moved up to meet his. "Me too."
He pressed another kiss to your lips. Gentle and light, almost as if it were a hint. You smiled looking into his eyes as he pulled away, letting out a small chuckle. "Best holiday present ever."
